As this weekend draws to an end I'm thinking once again that weekends should be three days long. One day for chores, one day for meeting friends and doing activities and one day for just chilling and recharging your batteries.

Isn't it interesting that every killing by every cop is just a single bad apple that should never be thought to spoil the bunch, while every protest by and on behalf of marginalized people must be flawlessly perfect, or all participants deserve the brutality the police exist to deliver to them?

@JuliusGoat If it's just a few bad apples, why was it necessary to cover a Holocaust memorial in London? If the majority of the protesters opposes antisemitism, why don't they take action against antisemitic aggression at the protests? Because it's not just a few bad apples. "From the river to the see" and "globalize the Intifada" chants have been common at these protests from day one.

@JuliusGoat Cool. So why are there so many cases of Jewish people being harassed? Why can't they protest without chanting slogans that imply that destruction of Israel? And why is the responsibility of Hamas never mentioned? Why isn't there any international and vocal pressure on Hamas to release the hostages?

Ever since we moved into this building three years ago we've been able to observe two male blackbirds hanging out together whenever we see them. Since young blackbird siblings usually go their separate ways at some point, we are, of course, convinced they're a gay couple 😁 But whatever the reason, they're just super adorable to watch. Hopping through the grass together, chilling on tree branches next to each other. Where one goes the other one follows ❤

Back into language learning, day 48 of my current Duolingo streak! Making small progress by doing one or two lessons every night but it's progress! Today, during a Japanese lesson, I paused and appreciated the fact that I can read and understand simple Japanese sentences and how happy this makes me. I used to believe that Japanese would be nearly impossible to learn but it's not and I'm doing it :blobfoxbox:

So since yesterday was Krampus Day we watched Krampus, it has become an annual tradition. love this movie so much, they did a really good job with the Krampus costume and I love that they did their homework and cast an Austrian actress to play the grandmother.

Hey! There's a person in my life who's struggling badly with still not having found their place/path in their mid 30s. Knowing what they'd like to do, yes, but feeling like they're never gonna get there, just being stuck forever, feeling like a loser, too old to get a chance anymore. It's entirely possible to express solidarity with Palestinians without calling for the eradication of Israel and displacement of the Jewish population. In the "river from the sea" scenario, where are Jewish people supposed to go and live?

Then there need to be efforts to change this. From my perspective it's also not true that all Israelis thinks like that. Giving one side sovereignty by displacing the other isn't the answer.

I mean that both ethnic groups have historical claims to and a right to live on this land, so it is crucial to find a way that makes a peaceful coexistence of Israel and a Palestinian state possible.

We can base it on the fact that there has been a Jewish population living in this area since ancient times and that this population has a right to their own state. No we don't have to base land claims on religion but since so many other countries are doing a horrible job of making Jewish people feel safe and welcome I definitely see the necessity that a safe haven for Jewish people exists.

Jewish populations in Muslim countries have been the victims of violence and persecution time and time again. And hate crimes against Jewish people skyrocketing all over the world make prove once again that, yes, we do need a state that is a safe haven for Jewish people.

Given the current reality I very much doubt that a secular Palestinian state with a muslim majority, that affords equal rights to all religions as well as queer people (Israel is the only country in the region where you can live openly queer) is a realistic vision.
