Reading every book, watching every movie, binging every TV show, listening to every podcast related to #StephenKing and his vast output. I started on Jan 1, 2022 and this is gonna take me YEARS to do. As a lifelong #constantreader, I hope I live to see it through!

You can see my detailed journey in the google sheet I linked to in my profile metadata.

Day 807

Issue #4 of "House of Cards", the second comic series based on The Drawing of the Three.

Now we're at the moment of the big shootout. And where heads will roll.

I have zero skills in the visual arts, but I'd have to imagine the artists for this series had to have been nervous about bringing this pivotal moment to life.

Roland would never say "After we kill everyone..." in such a lighthearted manner. Way out of character for the Roland that WE know from the books!

While the dialog is weak, the action is rendered very well!

I know licenses had to be taken given the target audience of a comic book series, but it was an important plot point for Eddie to have been buck naked during this shootout. It was the first time that Roland admired Eddie and thought of him as a possible gunslinger.

I really like this rendering of The Dark Tower. Imagine if the red swirling clouds in the background were animated - how hypnotic would that be?

I'm feeling a bit emotional at the moment. I just traveled 600 miles to my childhood town to visit family. I arrived early & decided to visit one of my happiest places: The public library.

It was at this very library in the early 80s where a 12-year-old me had just checked out Pet Sematary and learned about 's existence for the very first time.

I spoke to myself from 40 years ago as I walked through the entrance. He would never believe the life that was ahead of him.

Posed this question over at the Sky place but I'll do it here, too, because I'm curious & want replies!

So, hopefully, since you're [ people] we're all familiar w Leland Gaunt, the Needful Things villain that can find something to tempt most people... I'm pondering, cuz I'm hard pressed to think of something I'd be vulnerable/susceptible to. Probably a 1st edition of a rare book. Or perfect health.

If anything goes, what about you?

Day 689

Next up is Issue 4 of The Gunslinger: The Way Station. I really like the cover here.

Reading/watching adaptations can be less enjoyable if you're intimately familiar with the source material. In this issue, the story has deviated with the introduction of "suckerbats" that I couldn't care less about, wanting the story to just advance the way I remember it.

Which isn't fair to this creative team.

Onward, then.

That's an excellent interpretation of Roland's haunting dream!

Has anyone seen Castle Rock on Hulu? JJ Abrams + Stephen King with Sissy Spacek.. We're on episode 4 and I'm so bored by it. I dunno, man. 🤣 Seen it? Does it pick UP?

The PACING 😑

@jake4480 I, for one, quite enjoyed it when it came out. I don't recall any particular problems with pacing.

Day 616

Finishing off The Losers' Club's lengthy review of The Boogeyman film, which they indeed were a bit critical of. I felt they are nitpicking on irrelevant minutia, giving this the analysis that one would give to The Godfather.

I remember when Stranger Things came out and the number of people who pointed out how much of a Stephen King vibe it had. How story elements seem lifted from such works as Firestarter and Carrie.

Now here, a big complaint The Losers' Club raised was how much this Stephen King film reminds them of Stranger Things. Oh how the world of irony has turned.

Day 612

Last week, "The Boogeyman" was finally released for streaming, so before I begin my next book (see yesterday's posts) I'm going to take advantage of the US holiday today and circle back to Night Shift and give this a watch.

The opening seconds of this film are impressive. Great visuals. The soundwork sets an incredible dark mood. I'm looking forward to what seems to be a high quality work!

I must admit, I paused the frame to see if there was any significance behind some of those letters on the wall being shaded out. I couldn't find any.

I now want one of these amazing looking glowing moon balls. Onto my Christmas wish list it goes!

stephenkingjourney,
@stephenkingjourney@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

When this character walked into the psychiatrist's office, he perfectly gave off the creepiest vibes. And then I looked up who the actor was (David Dastmalchian) and saw that he was also the hilarious Polka-Dot Man from "The Suicide Squad" and the creepy factor just disappeared. I need to learn to do my research AFTER the movie, not DURING it!

stephenkingjourney,
@stephenkingjourney@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

The acting is just incredible. So refreshing to see this after slogging through some of the worst King adaptations the industry had to offer. "The Boogeyman" is quality stuff.

"Nothing. Natural. About it."

stephenkingjourney,
@stephenkingjourney@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

Already a major deviation from the source material where the father of the young children who have been killed by the Boogeyman is himself found dead at the psychiatrist's house.

Interested to see where this goes from here.

stephenkingjourney,
@stephenkingjourney@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

The cinematography has a very Mike Flanagan feel to it. For example, this shot looks like it could have naturally belonged in "Doctor Sleep".

This is a high compliment!

What kind of twisted-ass child's therapy is this??? If I didn't have phobias walking into this lady's office, I sure would have collected a whole bunch walking out of it!
