So lucky tonight to be in the right place at the right time. Got a number of great photos during this flight.

Battling Linux this weekend. Got a new laptop which I understood was certified for Ubuntu.

After swapping out hard disk and memory, I read the fine print on certified message.

"Pre-installed in some regions with a custom Ubuntu image that takes advantage of the system’s hardware features and may include additional software. Standard images of Ubuntu may not work well, or at all."

Weird certification that does not work with standard install. WIfi is not working at all.

"Package firmware-realtek is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source."

I'm searching on this message now. I think I tried this before. I have several hours of copy and pasting commands from StackExchange behind me.

@Tekchip

Yes, it's an HP Probook 450 G9.

I did some light searching before purchase and the 'certification' gave me confidence. Too much confidence it seems. ;-)

Post problem searching turns up plenty of people with similar problems on HP laptops and genuine questions about whether or not this is a linux friendly laptop at all.

If I am reading the StackExchange correctly, there are no official drivers available. People keep pointing at repos for "unofficial" code that should help, but I think they are all a bit outdated and none have worked for me.

Right now, I'm hoping that I can simply upgrade the WiFi card.

@benjaminhollon

In my burst of confidence, I already upgraded the RAM and SSD. I'm told the warranty is still valid, but I'm skeptical I'll be able to return it after opening it up.

I still have optimism that I can get it working good enough for now and potentially sell it in the future and get something better.

Intalled on the laptop tonight, so I can process images on the road. I'll be underway for the next 8 days, so I need me some image processing power to go.

Having trouble accessing my photos from SD card using DarkTable on my laptop.

SD card is not showing up in available places to import from.

I do this all the time on desktop. I'm using DarkTable 4.2.1.

Help...

@darktable

I had tried the access media permission thingie, which didn't work for me.

But, I decided to upgrade my laptop and this time installed using a different package and it's working fine.

Thanks for response.
