Is there a Linux [window manager / desktop environment / whatever they're called these days] that has good support for fractional resolution scaling on hidpi displays? My aging eyes really want 150% scaling for this Framework 13 laptop, but gnome only offers 100% and 200%.

EDIT: so far KDE does the right thing. I wish there were more options though.

@aeva What's the deal about scaling vs changing font DPI? I know it comes with a warning that this is not what you want, but honestly, I feel that changing font DPI is the visually most pleasing way to make things more readable.

Video game opinion:

If you have a silent protagonist whose gender does not matter to the story, you should either make the protagonist's gender ambiguous or provide 2-3 different gender options.

Slightly different model + a few voice emotes isn't going to cost you all that much.

Corollary: the choices designers make about the genders of main characters whose gender doesn't matter says way more interesting things about the designers' worldview than about the game itself.

@aeva I just started playing Zelda: Spirit Tracks on DS (emulated). Early on it is shown that you can draw your own notes on the map and at first it seems like yeah, whatever. I kind of forgot about it. Then, with some puzzles it was brought to my attention again, I actually started using it and boy is it cool! It took me to some next level of immersion. I wish I could do it in BotW/TotK, in addition to the silly vague stamps.

I need to do something like this.

  1. User visits my website with iPhone using Safari. Sees some specific page. I somehow capture this fact on the device and associate a token with this (so far anonymous user).
  2. User installs my app.
  3. User opens the app that they just installed.
  4. The freshly installed app would like to read the token that was set in step 1 (on the same device).

Is there a clean way to do this on iOS?

My wishlist for the federated web is an activitypub-enabled phpbb clone (complete with the themes and emotes). I'd kill off my (mostly disused) discord server for Tangerine for it if I could pay a company to do the basic administration for me like you can with mastodon (keeping on top of updates and so on).

Ma ei näe tavaliselt sõgedaid unenägusid - tavapärane öövisioon on "nagu tavaline elu, lihtsalt hüplikum montaaž" - aga viimastel päevadel on asi kuidagi käest ära läinud.

Tänaöine nägemus oli selline, et ma ostsin omale 3 vinüülplaati täie teadlikkusega, et mul pole isegi mängijat - ja seejärel vaidlesin kellegagi, kes üritas väita, et Pixies'el pole ühtegi tuntud lugu peale "Where Is My Mind"'i, mille peale ma talle vastostetud "Doolittle" näppu pistsin.

I'm slowly making my way through TotK and this game is so silly. Just grinning ear to ear through it.

I just finished a scenario that ended up with me in the center of a giant pile of powerful weapons that hurt you when you use them, and I thought gee it sure would be a waste to leave all these powerful weapons, and

well it turns out there's a loop hole that makes them very safe to use lmao

@aeva It makes so much sense. I'm thinking it's something along Fight Club lines. The question is, which one is the real one? Is it Zelda who has created an alter ego to channel her violence and keep it separate from her "true innocent self", or is it Link, imagining a damsel in distress to justify his ruthless rampage and pot smashing?
