On Monday (5/02) and forward we offer you the private metasearch engine available under svmetasearch.eu.org. Made and hosted in Poland, private by design. Meanwhile DuckDuckGo tracks you as they cooperate with Microsoft, and pull their results from Bing only. And in the future we'll release a true alternative to Google/Bing frontends. Switch to SVMetaSearch.

I heard Google removed its "cached links" function [1].

But on SVMetaSearch, thanks to Internet Archive you can look back how the website looked back in my day.

Just click on that link in the lower left of a result, and you'll jump to IA if you happen to stumble upon a 404 through an original link.

My dream is that search engines wouldn't favour the SEO bullshit and focus on websites that were initially made for planned content.

Example? Cooking sites for... well, cooking. Tech news sites for... well, tech news. And so on and on.

Our only official social media account now represents our new branding.

We changed our logo, to the one designed by our head of UI/UX. I think it's nicer than the previous one.

And while we'll be available under @svmetasearch handle as for now, this might change in the future - but you will be notified about this change whether we'll move accounts.

On 2024.01.25 (tomorrow) between 2.00am and 6.00am Central European time a maintenance break is planned, taking up to 10 minutes when occurs.

It's time to reveal our rebranding process, and in particular - our new name.

Enter Peekr - the new search engine using its own index. Only. For a long period of time we called it SVMetaSearch 2.0.

We expect Peekr to launch between Q3 and Q4 of 2024, unless we'll be ready before (or hopefully not after) that.

Hi @svmetasearch, you may want to bias the search results for non-Polish users. Compare the results of "gnome gda typelib" without quotes against your and other search engines.

Also you may want to enable people to directly link to a search via query string.

Speaking of bold words, these do appear when something in the title and description is exact to what you type in search bar.

Please note we are working on an update which will change practically everything, and this may take some time to address issues you raised.

I am strongly considering to launch a public forum, but I think I wouldn't be able to handle both moderation, SVMetaSearch further development and my private life things all at once.

If this forum would open, would you be an active user of it, and if you want to, help me with moderating it? Poll answer adheres to the "registered user" thing only, I know moderation is hard thus it isn't for everyone.

To wrap up things, I am not planning on opening a Discord "public" group, but rather spinning up a full-fledged forum script on our server 😉

@aes256: no worries! Sometimes my wording is bad, but at least a good explanation fixes that.

I've never carried out such plans as that would be a disgrace for me to shrink a discussion board to a proprietary service userbase only. We don't even run a Facebook / Instagram page, because... why? I saw reports organic traffic on FB fanpages or IG profiles is near nought. Privacy concerns, and the fact of a genocide carried out because of leaving hatred posts in Burmese unattended also scare me away from there.

Here, in the fediverse as our only official window to the social media, we're good and planning to promote yet another alternative to DDG / Startpage even further by traditional standards of marketing. In extension, physical ads, or just speaking to other people in order to let them check out the project. The former of course requires money, and we're limited to donations made by people. We weren't granted an NLnet donation (we applied for it in 2023, to no avail) and lack of funds limits us abhorrently.

Google recently pushed a malformed update where it seemed euro costed 5 zlotys. Although corrected, everyone in Poland is still shocked regarding what happened recently - and even Polish Ministry of Finances had reacted.

Big Tech shall know great power comes with great responsibility.
