That sustained naïvety literally kills me, especially if you look at the release date (2024.02.29).

When there are none / low amount of relevant search results, what should a good search engine do?

STOP DOING SEARCH ENGINES

  • search engines were NEVER MEANT to be Bing frontends
  • millions of Bing frontends exist AND YET NO REAL WORLD USE FOUND for making your search engine dependent on big tech
  • "hello yes let's make a bing frontend that claims to protect privacy" - statements dreamed up by the utterly deranged

They played us for the absolute fools...

We decided to mock the Google Chrome's advert campaign running in Poland.

(For non-Polish speakers: it says that Chrome is the only browser without an adblocker and tells you to get rid of Chrome.)

@systemz: Librewolf is still better for one reason: it's just a browser and not yet another operating system. Mozilla also recently had fired over 60 employees in order to implement a "trustworthy AI" and we all know how this will end up. It's better to support an independent fork at this point.

All I want is to just browse the internet, not to focus on attention seeking functions I won't be likely using in my lifetime.

edit 2024.03.19: I'd like to clarify it was Mozilla, not Firefox. The latter is just a computer program, apologies for the confusion.

@jamoteusz: Brave is run by a cryptocurrencies psychofan, DuckDuckGo sucks, and Opera is Chinese. Three times "no".

@MartinBe: there is no browser I know that is based on Servo unfortunately.

@systemz: ahh, so that's how you considered the switch - gradual introduction is great, too.

@niloque: I do not use a Mac, but an EndeavourOS-based PC. I am unable to help on such field.

@jamoteusz: LibreWolf. uBlock Origin by default, you can install NoScript alongside. Or replace both with uMatrix. Up to you.

Today's pro-tip:

If you have to do a Google search, use “before:2023" at the beginning of your search string. You get a completely different (and IMO much more usable) set of results.

The web has died.

> The web has died.

@Dianepatterson: the non-commercial one? Way earlier. The VC-funded is thriving like never before.

if you redirect people back to google when they deny unnecessary cookies, then you are doing malicious compliance with GDPR and other similar directives

Some websites on robots.txt do "Disallow: /" for all crawlers but Google and Bing because of AI.

Yes, we have an AI, and it's called "selfhosted Elasticsearch installation".

Should be resources linking elsewhere even through subdomains (e.g. pictures.example.com) counted as potential trackers? What do you think?

Like you, we are tired of being tracked across the internet. But alongside setting up uBlock Origin, why not counterattack trackers by listing them out publicly?

Coming soon.

Our apologies to everyone who uses SVMetaSearch as a primary search engine - an abrupt service cession happened on 15.05 UTC yesterday.

We're now back online. Data (i.e. our index and anonymous search stats) is safe and sound, nothing was lost nor leaked.

Our server provider was struggling with networking issues.
