“The reasons why use of the placeholder attribute as the only means of providing a user readable prompt for a form control is deficient UX, are voluminous. It is frustrating having to rehash this discussion endlessly.”
@iamdavidobrien@SteveFaulkner In retrospect we can consider that there might have been a better name, but "placeholder" doesn't imply "label" - this is because devs (my past self included) are used to seeing the visual effect and deciding how that can be used, considering only their personal and subjective norm in those decisions.
If we instead make verifying intended use a first practice, we would have fewer issues, but that's a big change to how devs learn.
@seldo Thank you! I keep saying how useless google is getting (offering general, undetailed answers, ignoring many of my search terms) but many others tell me they have no issues and I'm left feeling like I'm failing at a basic skill.
