takeda,

I like how they are publicly congratulating themselves. Normally conversation about that would happen during office meeting and then if needed a PR would be released.

This sounds so desperate, and staged, almost like “please, advertisers, don’t leave us, we can turn things around”

takeda,

No, it was all safe. She took the picture from the passenger seat while OP was sleeping.

takeda,

What car is this dashboard from?

takeda,

I would argue it is harder and more dangerous. With the phone you need to unlock it, select camera app, then make sure it focuses (which doesn’t work that great at night, you have to look at the screen, tap on the area you want to focus), second thing is that due to low light conditions to avoid blurring you need to be perfectly still (which is hard to do in a moving car, especially if you are driving), this makes you check the picture then retry, then check again etc.

You likely could spend even a minute looking at the screen to make sure you got a good picture. Each time you switch your eyes need to adjust their focus which also takes a second, but that it is insignificant to the rest.

BTW: even changing the radio station takes enough attention to cause accidents (that’s why they started adding controls on the wheel), but taking a picture (especially at night) is way more dangerous.

takeda,

I have Sony Xperia phone which has a physical dedicated camera button, that doubles as a shutter button once camera is activated. Despite of that, no matter how much I tried I failed to take a legible picture of back of my neck (I needed it to be sharp so I could send it to my doctor) and after many tries (even with using a mirror) I gave up and had someone to do it for me.

It is really hard to take a sharp picture of something close without looking, especially with low light conditions.

takeda,

First I thought it was onion, but now as I think of it, it is quite smart move. It will be very hard for the companies reject these demands, and hopefully will cause the strike to end soon.

takeda, (edited )

What are you talking about? Yes, they ended the strike without getting paid go leave, but the WH continued to work on it after and they did get what they were asking for. Just media didn’t bother reporting on that little detail as it wasn’t “newsworthy”.

takeda,

Here’s about rail: www.ibew.org/media-center/…/230620_IBEWandPaid

Biden seems to do a lot of things that don’t get much attention or unfairly get bad attention. For example he drastically reduced number of drone strikes (trump actually increased them after Obama, but blocked reporting).

When he lifted sanctions on NS2 he got a lot of bad flak, some even from democrats. Only months later we learned that Russia was planning attack on Ukraine and he was doing it to repair our relationship with Germany. He managed to persuade them to drop it themselves which is how we supposed to deal with allies.

takeda,

The point of strike is to get what is demanded. Much better outcome for everyone involved (including the very people who are striking) is to get demands satisfied without having to strike. Do you think people strike, because they love doing that? No one does.

takeda,

Actually he handled them really well, maybe not so good from the PR point of view, as almost no one reported on it:

www.ibew.org/media-center/…/230620_IBEWandPaid

takeda,

This is why he should have get a gag order from a judge. He already is preparing his base that he will lose in court: “yes, I did it, but anyone would do the same, because all is rigged against me”

takeda,

The more I observe social media the more it looks like MSM (including “leftist” channels) seen to render more conservative image than it really is. For example pretty much all the conservative subreddits end up blocking speaking unless the person was first vetted by mods and got tagged.

You see for example comments about r/politics brigading r/Conservative yet when it happens the other way it is barely noticeable.

To me it is clear that MSM over represents the conservative population and creates illusion that divide is 50/50.

takeda,

That’s why I put it in quotes.

Margot Robbie Shows Solidarity with Writers Guild (lemmy.world)

Margot Robbie proved she can make even the most casual look runway-ready as she took to the streets during Wednesday’s SAG-AFTRA rally. The Barbie star, 33, was a vision in an oversized white tee, putting her own stylish spin on the protest uniform. With her signature blonde locks flowing freely and chic sunnies shielding her...

takeda,

Pardon my ignorance, but isn’t this writers and actors strike? So she isn’t just showing solidarity by sympathizing with writers, but also striking?

takeda,

Yes, but you know what I mean. That the way article used it implied a different meaning, similar as if I (not involved in film or TV), picked up a sign and marched with them.

takeda,

Pegasus is an Israeli product, are they selling it to Russia?

takeda,

Perhaps it is me never using twitter, but mastodon felt really easy to use. In contrast to lemmy for example. The only difference it seems it has is that names have @ sign used like in email (as they do work like email, or have accounts on different servers).

takeda,

They also brought us Piers Morgan though.

takeda,

Can’t movie studios theoretically hold forever, because they still receive money from sources like streaming subscriptions.

Maybe we should start canceling these until the strike is over.

takeda,

I noticed that people who are using recreational drugs are disproportionally concerned about vaccine safety, which I find quite amusing.

takeda,

I never said that’s the only group though.

It is just surprising to me that you would get concerns about injecting yourself with not well tested medicine from that specific group.

takeda,

Unfortunately we were shown time and time again that GOP doesn’t care about looking like hypocrites. Their base is completly disconnected with the real world.

takeda,

Don’t worry, because the hotels were his, he charged a special rate.

takeda,

I don’t think that’s the reason. After observing him, it looks like his strategy whenever something bad is happening to either distract or with another controversy that is not visible as bad to his base, or if he knows about something that is upcoming, then first come up with own version and normalize it so it no longer has a shock value to his fans.

He didn’t seem to have problem with keeping his mouth shut when testifying.
