tauonite,

Tell me more about SSL certificate forgery. As far as I know, for a device to trust it, it needs to be signed by a trusted CA. You’d either need to compromise a CA and create your own certificate for the website or make the target device trust a custom CA. In the case of a custom CA, the user explicitly needs to perform an action to trust it. How is this not enough on a public network?

tauonite,

You can’t just talk about teledildonics without mentioning the great buttplug.io. Its creator even has notifications set up for when someone mentions teledildonics on Reddit (maybe not anymore, haha). Many games have support for it through a mod and IIRC one officially released a ‘sex update’ to support buttplug.io. Not a sex game, by the way.

tauonite,

And less supported software! Open-source programs can often be compiled for FreeBSD but many closed-source and some open-source software won’t work in FreeBSD. There is the Linuxulator, which is basically Wine but for Linux programs on FreeBSD but it doesn’t have perfect Linux software support yet.

tauonite,

You’ve drunk DHMO? I’m so sorry for you, you’re going to die

tauonite,

I’ve done extensive thinking but I haven’t come up with anything I could post. Never posted or even commented on Reddit but maybe one day I’ll do or make something postable on Lemmy

tauonite,

I’d downvote but I’ve come to the understanding that I shouldn’t downvote if I disagree, so… Take my upvote, truly an old people trait

tauonite,

Reddit administrators even promised to help with the poll

The admins will be helping us and will provide us with a breakdown of votes by account age and sub activity.

and respect the results of the poll

If the results of the poll show the community wants us to participate and protest the changes, admins have promised us to respect that will and work on our demands.

Despite the results given by Reddit administrators themselves being clearly in favor of blackout, Reddit broke their promise forcing the subreddit to reopen.

Fuck spez.

tauonite,

And I thought no one does anything but bottom left! Bottom left all the way, top left is weird. Y'all are nuts.

tauonite,

Nope! I use one of those things called... hang on, this is a hard word to remember... 'case'...? Not sure if it's spelled like that. It's a magical thing that protects your phone and makes it not break. Jokes aside, I don't understand how a screen would break from hitting a table corner even without a case. The impact will be softened by your body and it shouldn't be enough pressure on the screen to crack it, right?

When I Log In As Me (wazoobonkerbrain), The ID of Another User ("calaei") Briefly Flashes On Screen

When I first open up lemmy.world in the browser, I am not logged in, and at top right it says Login. I type my username and password and hit enter. I get the hourglass for a few seconds, then for a split second the word Login is replaced by another word, before displaying my username (wazoobonkerbrain)....

tauonite,

I've actually tried playing around with it and I've made two findings about it:

  1. It seems to happen when fetchInitialData is set in lemmy-ui/src/shared/routes.ts
  2. It cannot be used to see any sensitive information, as far as I have investigated
tauonite,

Where did you see that? Was it (supposed to be) private?

tauonite,

Hoping for 0.18 to be released soon as that fixes the new content bug!

tauonite,

Right now it's shouting over the fence to talk between Kbin and Lemmy, it's a bit clunky and buggy. Hopefully that fence can over time lower and be completely removed as the code gets better and better. Looking forward to having a great time with you guys!

tauonite,

Limited to sexy pictures of John Oliver. Only the very best

several subreddits are voting on the future of the community, but are currently losing to returning to normal (lemmy.world)

r/pics, gifs, among others are voting on whether to return to normal operation. As lots of people supporting the black out aren't using Reddit at the moment the voting is currently going in favour of returning to normal

tauonite,

The poll has closed:

Voting has now closed.

Our final tally is as follows:

Return to normal operations: -2,329 votes

Only allow images of John Oliver looking sexy: 37,331 votes

The overwhelming majority voted for sexy John Oliver. That's good.

tauonite,

Huh. I've come to the opposite conclusion. At least in most bigger subs, such as r/pics, I've seen the overwhelming majority voting for blackout or restricted posting. This particular poll at r/pics has by now finished and it was a landslide victory for sexy John Oliver.

tauonite,

As is suggested in the original post on Reddit, they could delegate moderation to the moderators opposing the blackout, as seems to have happened with r/AdviceAnimals. I feel like that's something they very well could do.

tauonite,

After Aston's bad weekend in Spain, I'm hoping they can bounce back with an Alonso podium. Mercedes's performance looked promising in Spain, I think it'll be a fight between Hamilton and Alonso for the final podium place behind Verstappen and Pérez.

For everyone new to Lemmy, how are you finding the experience?

I wanted to get a pulse check on how new members are finding the general experience/website. Is it more confusing than Reddit or are you finding the instance system a better way of doing things as it can give you more freedom of where you choose to create an account?...

tauonite,

Joined today and I find Lemmy really cool. Of course there isn't that much content here yet but I'm hoping the June 12 Reddit protests and the upcoming Reddit API restrictions will bring more users in.
