I opted for the Vision Pro Max and have never been more conscious of just how small my head is. Just rattling around in that thing like a bean in a tin.

    Just remembered the time in a "town hall" meeting at arguably one of the worst companies in the world, when they were trying to justify cutting some costs, effectively making everyone's jobs harder.

    I said "cutting costs is good, how about we get rid of the two offices and 'executive apartment' you're paying for in Portland but not using?"

    There were crickets, and someone said "wait, we still have those two offices?"

    It doesn't make management like you, but taking "townhall" meetings at face value is a good example to set for your coworkers.

    The iOS 17.4 beta made most of my shortcuts unusable. (Every shortcut that used the ‘Get My Shortcuts’ action stopped working.)

    So I had to DFU my iPhone, go back to 17.3, and in the process I:

    • Forgot to back up my WhatsApp and lost years of conversations;
    • Lost all my Shortcuts automations since they don’t sync with iCloud.

    Slept until 11am. Rolled through preorder while making coffee. 1TB Vision Pro still available for delivery on Feb 2; in-store pickup — which Apple says is recommended, presumably for fit/training — on Feb 3.

    A good night’s sleep is the key to the good life.

    When I was a kid, there was a period where "killer bees" were in the nightly news a lot. I remember because it scared the crap out of me, probably because of the terrible "killer bee" TV movies that were popular at the time.

    This is just a reminder that "killer bees are getting closer" is a story that will run in the news while "killer bees are no longer getting closer" absolutely will not, ever.

    Today's app misfire was an archived chat with a response to a "super" like I sent last month. I never saw the (legit) reply, only notified with a badge saying that the chat had been archived! As someone who loathes getting ghosted, it looked like I did that to her. I was able to unarchive by responding, but... no telling if / when she'll see it. She even tried her message twice, saying that the first may not have shared since the app was being wonky. Thanks, Match Group.
