this stellar blade sexy nonsense is all over the internet... I don't seem to have much of an opinion on it though. How does everyone feel about Stellar Blade being condemned for sexy outfits while more mature games, like BG3 are praised for nudity?

@ward In my opinion the biggest difference is that BG3 is a great game first, that also has sex and nudity. I haven't played Stellar Blade, but the marketing does seem to really push the sex appeal aspect of as much or more than the game play and story. Personally, I don't have a problem with either and I think there's room in gaming for both.

It is kind of funny that the chuds expected gaming journalists and "the wokes" to be furious about this game, but that really hasn't been the case from what I've seen. The reviews were all pretty decent for it and no one is freaking out about it. Even the article in your screenshot doesn't really condemn Stellar Blade for it's outfits. The author's main points ended up being that some of the outfit designs were goofy and there's a conflict between the way Eve is portrayed and the way she is written.

So I found out a guy I went to high school with has been making YouTube videos where he rants about how games and shows are all woke now. It seems like his views went way up when the Sweet Baby stuff started happening and now he puts their logo in like every video.

All of these channels use the same thumbnail layout and the titles have words randomly capitalized. I don't get it. It must suck to not be able to enjoy things because of the woke boogeyman they've created in their minds.

I've seen people say that Baldur's Gate 3 was lightning in a bottle, and I think that's totally incorrect. It's pure and simple, Larian Studios did the work. The work they did on their previous games (Divinity: OS 1 & 2) built the foundation that allowed them to create BG3.

Larian is NOT a typical AAA dev... I still consider them indie, despite their size. Indie simply means that they do not have to answer to a publisher. While this was D&D, they simply purchased the rights and Hasbro did not have any input in the creative process.

Larian works on projects they love. They create what they want to create. They seek community feedback after a certain point, but ultimately, they are in charge. They do not focus on monetization schemes or addictive mechanics... they just make good games. They earned this. It isn't lightning in a bottle... it's math.

@ward I think being a private company definitely helps. There's no shareholders pressuring them to add micro transactions or turn everything into a live service.

@ward the death penalty isn't something I support as I don't believe governments killing their citizens is a good thing, but I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a part of me that wishes the people doing similar crimes here would get that as a punishment instead of the slap on the wrist they usually get.

was at a bar tonight and had a verbal transaction that kinda bothered me... I asked someone, "is this the line for the bathroom."
They replied with:
"Yeah, and if anyone cuts in front of me I'll kill them... I'm trans btw."
I told them, "No worries, won't cut in front." I didn't respond to the trans comment because it's totally cool and I didn't see any reason to say anything about it. They turned back around and ignored me for a minute...
Then they turned back around and said, "You know, I just want to warn you, there's a lot more trans people here and outside tonight."

I didn't know how to reply. I just said, "Oh, that's awesome..." and it was very awkward. I was just hanging out and having a good time, but I felt so unwelcome. It felt hostile. I'm sorry if any of you have been through this... but I don't think anyone has the right to profile someone unless they are wearing some obviously hateful stuff... I was just wearing all black and trying to be nice to everyone. I don't think I look like a bro or anything... most people ask if I'm a musician (which I am)... anyway, I just wanted to vent. I know shit it rough for people and everyone wants a safe space... but I don't think it's right for someone to single me out like that unless I'm deserving. OK... that's all. I'm not going to spend any more time worrying if I did something wrong... but damn... I love that bar and hope it remains a welcoming place for all (except nazis... fuck nazis).

    I got curious, so I did some math. It's more dangerous to be a landscaper than a cop in the USA.
    Landscapers 25 deaths per 100k
    Cops 19 deaths per 100k
    ... And cops killed 1300 or so a year.
    Just numbers with no comments.

    @ward the future of Firefish doesn't look great. Any chance of moving this instance to IceShrimp or maybe Catodon? I know migrating from FF to IS is documented and has been done. The Catodon dev says that it should be doable but hasn't released the documentation for it yet.

    @ward I don't know all the details but here's a quick overview

    OpenAI board fires the CEO Sam Altman
    Some other high up OpenAI people leave
    500 OpenAI employees sign a letter demanding that the board all resign or they'll quit (and maybe go to Microsoft)
    Microsoft announces that they've hired Sam to lead their AI stuff
    At some point during this the board also tried to get Sam back but failed.

    So it looks like Microsoft will probably end up with some if the important OpenAI people, and possibly a bunch of their former employees, and might not need to work with OpenAI anymore.

    I think Daylight Savings Time is stupid and antiquated, but I'll never be mad at gaining an extra hour. In fact, I think we should only give an extra hour, twice per year indefinitely. Will it eventually make time in relation to daylight meaningless? It certainly will, but papa needs his beauty sleep.

    Also, I'm really sorry I called myself papa. It was unpleasant and I won't do it again.
