throwing_handles,

Hear me out, we have to protect our kids from the dirty jews, let’s make concentration camps to save our PRECIOUS LITTLE KIDS!!

throwing_handles,

The suffering is the means, the end is to cause fewer liberal voters than conservative to move in and cause some of the liberal voters there to move out.

throwing_handles,

That’s great until the case goes to his own supreme court. At least the New York case can’t go to them.

throwing_handles,

That’s great until the case gets appealed twice to his own supreme court. At least the new york case can’t go to them.

Shape Rule (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

[A person offering a second person a Klein bottle. The second person rejects the Klein bottle. They have a plate of regular three dimensional shapes in front of them. They have picked up a rectangular prism on their fork. In the upper left corner is the text: “No! A responsible adult says no to non-orientable shapes”]

You haven’t lived till you comprehended this one! If you peel this entire surface into two surfaces like 2ply toilet paper, this is also a halfway point for one way of turning a sphere inside out, depending on which surface peels which way!

throwing_handles,

This is about as accessible as it can get: faculty.math.illinois.edu/~jms/…/eversions.pdf

The magic happens at the center-point of the surface where the three self-intersections meet. When you ply the surface apart, a tiny cube forms at the triple-point and begins to grow.

Morin’s surface is slightly less complex than splitting the boy’s surface apart, in that sphere eversion halfway model, a trapezoid forms instead of a cube. Inverting a trapezoid in this way is the minimum complexity required to turn a sphere inside out.

Videos I enjoy:

Outside in , which uses a technique different than those above (there’s also a parody out there where the narrators get snarky at eachother)

The optiverse , which uses Morin’s surface mentioned above, but is as ‘smooth’ as mathematically possible.

throwing_handles,

Maybe he’ll get a judge like the one who sentenced a guy to only 12 years instead of 72 for raping his daughter for 2 years, starting when she was 14, saying aloud that it’s because he’s a priest.

throwing_handles,

SCOTUS soon: ‘Any state is allowed by this ruling to call any book harmful and criminalize it in libraries!’

throwing_handles,

If this comment makes you think desktop/laptop, I just switched to the firefox app on my android and have seen no downsides!

(Copied my comment from the last post about this)

throwing_handles,

This was a much better ending to the story of a dragon keeping his toys in a jar than I thought of.

throwing_handles,

The first day I saw this I pegged it as a joke comment but it’s not!

throwing_handles,

On the subject of video games:

  • Try portal 1, it’s an exceptional puzzle game to many.
  • Try portal 2, it’s even better than portal 1.
  • If you crave more, portal stories: mel is a free fanmade mod of portal 2. It plays like an official spinoff. On advanced mode the puzzles are significantly more difficult.
  • Try portal:reloaded if you haven’t, another free fanmade mod, it adds significant complexity to the portal gun in the best possible way.
throwing_handles,

throwing_handles,

I can’t upvote this because the article’s title is designed to be misleading, as demonstrated by multiple upvoted incorrect comments here.

throwing_handles,

In one pageload I no longer feel an itch to go back to reddit anymore, thank you!

throwing_handles,

Noticed just recently that if I click ‘all’, then I load the next page, my selection switches back to ‘subscribed’ and results reflect that. I confirmed this only happens on old.lemmy.world.

I’m running android version of firefox, v115.2.1

TIL an object's angular momentum is affected very slightly by the spin of its electrons (demonstrations.wolfram.com)

Until now I only learned an electron cannot be spinning in the classical sense, because it would have to be spinning faster than the speed of light (plus ‘spin 1/2’ has no classical sense.) This made me assume quantum ‘angular momentum’ sums to magnetism instead-of and without classical angular momentum.

throwing_handles,

In the “Big Book,” the foundational document of these programs, “Chapter 4: We Agnostics” tells atheists and agnostics that they are “doomed to alcoholic death” unless they “seek Him.”

I’ve seen comments elsewhere claiming religion is optional in AA and you can ignore those parts, is it really optional if the program that’s supposed to be helping you says it can’t and you’re going to die!?

Wife's boss is on a power trip. Is this legal?

My wife works in a restaurant, and the power-tripping manager has instituted a new policy where all shift changes must be approved by management. I think that is reasonable enough, but they’re also asking the originally-scheduled employee why they are switching shifts, then approving or denying based on the answer....

“You don’t have to elaborate… Please don’t elaborate, but we are going to need a doctor’s note.”

E: apparently in the US it’s only legal for a company to require a doctors note if three or more consecutive absence days are taken.

throwing_handles,

For a about ten seconds I was wondering how a watch could cause a medical seizure and why the watch company would be filing a lawsuit in that case.

throwing_handles,

Sometimes I feel the unwelcome itch to google people from high school, but I never scratch it. I don’t need to know which ones are criminals now or not. I would rather continue thinking of them as the way they were.

throwing_handles,

Cart Narcs are amazing because they hold a mirror up to these people and it makes their heads explode.
