I have been on vacation one day and so far have gotten yelled at 3 times for checking slack. My team is great.

"New studio" is YouTuber slang for getting sent to the garage for recordings.

nix is melting ❄️😰

afaict the community has been invaded by trolls and now the maintainers are quitting.

let's talk hypotheticals. let's say that you had a few million dollars to invest in creating a package manager that could "fix Nix".

what would that look like?

timClicks,
@timClicks@mastodon.nz avatar

@zeborah But what would they build?

timClicks,
@timClicks@mastodon.nz avatar

@ashguy Well, I know that I know people with a few million dollars who are always looking for the right thing to spend their money on.

An short comparison between Python and Rust for text processing tasks. (An efficient algorithm is left as an exercise for the reader. 😅 ) https://youtu.be/3-odyhxzWkE

@TomSwirly That only swaps characters in the ASCII range, but I like it.

Don't think that this one will do as well as the last one. Hopefully still useful to someone! https://youtu.be/3-odyhxzWkE

This 2min video is going micro viral. My experiment to see if it's possible for a video without YouTuber nonsense fluff is proving successful. https://youtu.be/W61mh-X0fOg

I am so good at creating YT shorts that the full length version of my recent video is doing better than the short version.

So I guess there's no way to include preformatted text in Tumblr posts, eh? Pretty wild.

@theory You can use the markdown editor

@theory Sounds like it's finally time to migrate off Tumblr

is this joke too niche? (I'm trying to find an easy example to teach match guards)

timClicks,
@timClicks@mastodon.nz avatar

@d6y You can, but it's slightly awkward because retrieving an environment variable returns a String but string literals are represented differently in the program and accordingly have a different type

petition to add std::os::all_args() to the Rust standard library. all_args() returns Vec<String> avoiding the need to tell beginners about iterators, collect and Vec<_>.

@d2718 @mikkelens I agree that they're essential, but I want to meet learners where they are. This means teaching one thing at a time as far as possible. And in the context of the example that I was working with at the time, I was teaching something else.
