rewatched the first Indiana Jones film and they don't make hollywood action film fight scenes good anymore... and more films should have nazis as morally acceptable villains for punching...
back in christmas of 1992 a few cash presents from my extended family added up to about $30 to blow on a new PC game.
new games were usually from $50-$75, and this meant digging through bargain bins at my favourite software stores. (or, if i got lucky, the used shelves)
the minute i saw The Humans, i was sold. the box art was equal parts The Simpsons, B.C. and Wizard of Id. i didn't need to even look at the back of the box, because i knew this was a keeper.
on the ride home, i read the little manual from cover to cover - it read like a mini-comic, full of the same style of cartoon art. i was practically salivating by the time we pulled into the driveway, and rushed to install it on our XT
my heart sunk the minute i saw the title screen. the character art was completely different and it was...... ungood. generic, lifeless, and animated without any of the vigor implied by the box cover
worse, the game turned out to be a shitty Lemmings or Lost Vikings clone, featuring none of the adorable B.C.-like encounters i had imagined.
i eventually traded my copy away, but it still rankled. for 30 years i thought about that goddamned box art, and how much i wanted it to exist as a real game
this morning i finally dug into researching just who drew that art, and i found the artist's name as a barely noticeable footnote in the game manual: it turned out to be illustrated by famous cartoonist Elwood Smith! :D
@vga256 I got that game for £3 in a bargain bin, similarly. I didn't hate it but my standards for games were very low. that box art was so exciting, though!
Here's an idea: a clock that shows the time 8 hours from now, so you can see what time you would get up if you got 8 hours of sleep if you went to bed right now.
considering that I used to download a shitload of cracks and keygens in the 2000s you'd think I'd have had more trouble. sometimes I downloaded keygens for software I didn't even care about just to listen to the sweet demoscene music lol
for whatever reason "limewire gave me so many viruses lol!" is going around as a meme at the moment but I'm not sure I ever got any malware from filesharing
