Discussion elsewhere got me finally thinking about this, and I think the reason I prefer microblog sites (twitter, mastodon, etc) over Discord is that it’s a single channel to follow, with clear thread systems and - on mastodon at least - simple chronological ordering so I can make sure I never miss anything by resuming reading from where I last left off.

Discord is thousands of separate channels, with a terrible threading system, and even in channels that I check regularly it refuses to deliver me to where I last read, it will only backtrack so far in a busy channel, so I’m /going/ to miss most things. I do not like missing posts - if I didn’t want to see what people said, I wouldn’t be following them, would I? - and Discord makes that not only the default but functionally unavoidable. Missing things is designed in.

years ago QFC (a Seattle grocery chain) had this "an easier way to save" campaign and I took a lot of those bags to use as tax folder wrappers because I needed something for that anyway and also because you could replace the word "save" with the year to get

etc

and that made me giggle a little every time but also christ we needed easier ways to do these years

    Had a twilight sedation medical procedure this morning, and as always the last thing I remember is wondering if I'd already passed the point where I wouldn't remember things, and if so, does that make these experiences somehow less real, and if so, what does that imply for our entire mortal lives?

    Anyway, it sure is nice being allowed to eat solid foods again!
