Question for teachers out there: If you're learning to teach a foreign language, what resources or material do you learn from? Does it differ if you're a native speaker teaching others to speak your language?

I am not looking for tools for me to learn languages. I am trying to understand the meta-education which goes into language teaching.

So, Mastodon and X enable easy embedding of their posts on other websites.

BlueSky has a solution generated by a 3rd-party (there was another one which went away.)

Threads gives you a way to generate a code, but all it does is load up a box and link to Threads.

Super disappointing to see the willingness to let the walled garden thrive, but not surprising.

So, apparently, Bimbo Bread is named for its parent company, the Mexican "Grupo Bimbo" which was founded in the 1940s.

In trying to figure out where 'Bimbo' in the name came from I found their corporate website. It states that the name is a combination of "Bingo" and "Bambi." That's... interesting.

Very sad at the Mozilla annual report and the sad future for Firefox.

When logging into a website, what is the benefit of asking for email, making me hit submit, and then asking me for my password? Why not accept both at once?

I remain saddened by the state of Android Mastodon apps compared to the offerings on Apple.

Looking forward to diving into both of them.

"Why isn't new year's on the winter solstice?" - Romans sucked at calendars and we haven't abandoned it yet.

Here's a post on github which dives into just how bad they were at it

Since this is getting some traction, want to call out it as being written by @noelle

Sharing in case this ends up hanging anyone else up. My Pi-hole was blocking my ability to interact with the Dominos website to order dinner. I had to disable it to use the website at all.

Doing my part to clean out the freezer before my mother-in-law arrives for the holidays. Just forced myself to finish off some ice cream.

First big snag on the new PC. I decided to start assembling it tonight despite the video card not arriving until Tuesday. As it turns out, good thing I did. The cooler I had ordered is too big for the case. I had ordered a 3-fan AIO cooler from Corsair and it's too big, I'll have to size down to their two-fan or look at another option altogether.

I'm daydreaming of a cheap gadget with an e-ink display which has a passive NFC sensor, and when activated it updates the display of the e-ink screen. Basically current tech for digital store price labels, but dirt cheap.

I want it for easily updating the labels on the drawers for my sorted Magic cards. Right now I use dry erase labels, which work fine. But it would be nicer looking for them to be e-ink displays.

So I'm about to embark on building a new PC, something I haven't truly done in about a decade. I'm trying to understand NVMEs alongside traditional and SSD drives.

I'm looking for mid-level gaming, video editing / streaming maybe.

Is there a reason I should go with at least one NVME?

This morning I have discovered streamlink, a CLI app for launching streams in VLC player (among others.) This will greatly assist in watching streams on my TV without having to remote desktop into the Raspberry Pi.
