I've been following the recent press tour by Humphrey Ker talking about Wrexham. I find it interesting to discover that the Welcome to Wrexham series was already sold and go even before Ryan Reynolds came on board.

Question which risks devouring my entire evening: What is the historical population distribution for the US by state? As in, including all people born throughout history after each state joined the union.

Dinner tonight is my first take at a indian curry. I'm using this recipe from Gordon Ramsay as my first go. The chicken is currently in the fridge marinating.

The Sounders are comically bad this season. It hurts. Just play yackety sax and save the commentators the effort for our games.

Minecraft idea. A 'respawn indicator' which is a block or wall hanging and is red so long as it is not within a 10x10 square of your respawn location. If it is within that square, it is green. I am very tired of respawning into spawn rather than my base when I come back from the end because I forget to hit the bed at some point.

Someone on TikTok called out that people looking for background music should listen to videos on YouTube with DJs surrounded by plants, and that person is 100% right.

Madhouse, the 1990 movie, is one of the worst movies I've ever watched. Just truly unabridged 1980s cocaine-fueled insanity with no redeeming features.

Pineapple Banana Bread, fresh from the oven. Letting them cool some before removing from the pans.

PS - I discovered this morning that Good Eats is streaming on Max.

I am fairly certain the poem in last week's Shogun takes from a poem by Spike Milligan: https://www.trickjarrett.com/2024-04-13.html#658ddec4

The sound of rain on the leaves can be heard.
Still more fragile is the dew of tears on my sleeves even in springtime.
Waiting, the pine tree never withers in winter.
If I could use words like scattering flowers and falling leaves
what a bonfire my poems would make

Question for teachers out there: If you're learning to teach a foreign language, what resources or material do you learn from? Does it differ if you're a native speaker teaching others to speak your language?

I am not looking for tools for me to learn languages. I am trying to understand the meta-education which goes into language teaching.

I'm surprised there isn't a "Mail-in Safe Deposit Box" startup from the last decade. Check your box's contents via webcam remotely. Insured. Etc. As banks draw down hours, etc. It feels like a potential thing. Shipping is obviously a concern, but the company covers the shipping insurance, etc. Once it gets big enough, offer courier pickups in armored trucks in bigger cities, etc.

Firing up the turntables tomorrow night for my second vinyl set stream! Our theme for the evening is "Albums from Highschool" One song from each of these albums! Then, we'll listen to one front to back! Tomorrow night at 7:00PM Pacific over on https://twitch.tv/james_lrr

@James_LRR This lineup looks sick. Completely unrelated, do you have any Oscar Peterson vinyls? K & I started watching a documentary about him, I hadn't heard of him. But his jazz piano is absolutely mind blowing.

So, Mastodon and X enable easy embedding of their posts on other websites.

BlueSky has a solution generated by a 3rd-party (there was another one which went away.)

Threads gives you a way to generate a code, but all it does is load up a box and link to Threads.

Super disappointing to see the willingness to let the walled garden thrive, but not surprising.

@llarian Agreed, of the four it's the one I enjoy the least and feels the most superficial as a platform.

So, apparently, Bimbo Bread is named for its parent company, the Mexican "Grupo Bimbo" which was founded in the 1940s.

In trying to figure out where 'Bimbo' in the name came from I found their corporate website. It states that the name is a combination of "Bingo" and "Bambi." That's... interesting.

@bedirthan I say it Bim-bo, but can easily believe it's supposed to be Beem-bo.
