Absolutely agree.

Memmy is now in the same revered spot that Apollo was, and I feel like all the constant updates and finding new communities has been so exciting that it eases the pain of losing apollo

Android Community Closure Update

We have received numerous reports from users about the closure of the c/android community. While we fully support the original community owners’ decision to move to another instance, it will eventually be necessary to open up the community on Lemmy.world. The beauty of the fediverse is that multiple communities on the same...

What you describe as the “issue” is the entire point of lemmy and decentralizing and all that.

once lemmy starts dictating “oh you have to change things in this community in this instance to match this instance” and “everything has to follow one master set of rules” they become reddit.

honestly the best way to solve your issue would just be multireddits, if you wanna see content from both communities just add it to a multilem or whatever they end up calling it.

i was gonna say, i’m using memmy mostly and my upvote is orange, downvote is blue

uhauljoe,
@uhauljoe@lemmy.world avatar

better than supporting reddit

i would rather deal with a few incredibly minor inconveniences

tbh i have a roof over my head and food in my mouth, so i haven’t really thought about the number of swipes i have to make in an app, it just isn’t that important

i’m more happy that i have a beautiful client to browse an alternative to reddit

i’ll sit here happily and patiently while the devs carve out their path lol

This was really well said!!

I’m here from Reddit and that’s what I’ve been doing, just subscribing to whatever I can find for each subreddit I’m losing, and then whichever one seems like it’s either most active or has the most quality content stays and I unsub from whatever sublems aren’t providing content.

This OP seems pissed off about subbing to multiple sublems that are the same but like…you don’t have to. Go use Reddit? lol

The multiple sublems thing is kinda the point of Lemmy, there isn’t one big overlord controlling everything

uhauljoe,
@uhauljoe@lemmy.world avatar

just commenting to say i really like the term sublems lol i’m gonna try to start using that

uhauljoe,
@uhauljoe@lemmy.world avatar

yeah, sublemmy felt like a mouthful but sublems almost sounds like sublime so it feels more natural

It depends heavily on where you are.

Are you in a legal state like California, where there are dispensaries everywhere and plugs everywhere?

Or illegal state where it’s harder to get?

Is the flower indoor or outdoor?

I mean generally speaking (granted I’m from California where weed is not that expensive), I’m not paying more than $30-$40 for an 1/8 at a dispensary.

I haven’t tried dry vape myself but I used to work in a dispensary, and knew people who did. As far as I can tell you don’t need any specific flower, any should do. Out of my own head, maybe something less sticky so it doesn’t gunk up the vape? idk if that’s a common issue tho.

How to make subscribed feed more diversed?

Hi guys, I’m on lemmy since the reddit api announcement and am subscribed to tens of communities. When I’m setting my feed to watch topics only from Subscribed communities (hot/active), I see a lot of topics from the same communities, like 10 topics in a row from 1 community then 3 from a different one and again from the...

Thank you

I’m getting tired of seeing those comments, it’s giving a little bit of condescension, and tbh I don’t want to see lemmy communities just turn into subreddits with a list of 30 strict rules you have to check your post against before submitting

It’s so unbelievably easy to just scroll past, I truly don’t understand people who don’t want to see it and could just scroll, but instead expend the energy to open the post and type out a comment instead

I know this technically isn’t the right community, but is it hurting anyone? Could we view it as an opportunity to help someone today? Idk people are so into their own little world.

@uhauljoe@lemmy.world avatar

So what you’re saying is, Reddit is fucking creators by not compensating them, but when you take that work and repost it without compensation, it’s ok?

Besides, the great thing about Lemmy is that it’s not Reddit. It has a whole different vibe. I think it’s worth maintaining that.

Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I used to check the front page at least once every day, and occassionally check specific subreddits. Now I don’t look at reddit unless theres some drama, like mods getting purged, then I’d go there and enjoy the drama. Occasionally there will be questions that only reddit has the answer to so I have to reluctantly use it. I...

@uhauljoe@lemmy.world avatar

I do, but not nearly as much as Lemmy.

I used to go to reddit for everything. To scroll aimlessly, just to look at aesthetic photos, to read stories…I even had a multi reddit for text based subs, and a third party app on my watch so I could read text based reddit posts at work.

Now, I only go to reddit if i need the resources of a specific sub (earlier i had a question about an app so i went to their sub to browse and see if there was any advice) or if i’m cross posting content to lemmy to get my communities going.

when i just want to scroll and see what’s new, ive been coming straight to lemmy every time.

i’m really trying to interact more too.

I use Spotify.

I used to go back and forth a lot but I think I’m sticking with spotify.

I like the design of Apple Music but their recommendations suck.

I find most of my new music by using a button on spotify that’s called enhanced shuffle or something. but you click it on a playlist and it will insert random recommendations that you can easily add to the playlist if you like it.

i love it cause it just mixes it in with your regular music so you can really tell if it flows nicely in that playlist or if it kills the vibe a little.

uhauljoe,
@uhauljoe@lemmy.world avatar

Personally I don’t like it because 1, it’s redundant when the post is already greyed out, and 2, it draws MORE attention to read posts.

Your eyes are naturally drawn there because it’s brighter and looks like a notification, then you realize the post is grey.

Without it, it’s simpler. Read posts are dim, unread posts are bright.

Right now, its unread posts are bright and read posts are dim with a bright icon. Everything has something bright so nothing looks different.

Kinda high so I hope I explained that without sounding stupid

My most frequent is cartridges, just because they’re small and convenient and discreet to carry around.

But if I’m just at home, I like taking dabs. Or smoking a joint if I have time, for some reason joints fuck my lungs more than anything so it takes me a while to get through one.

Love a bong, but mine is still packed away from when we moved lol.

ironically this post shows -7 for me, and when i came to the comments there were a bunch of removed by user and only one actual comment

Also Meta wants to join the fediverse with Threads.

A lot of it is just people talking about their social media ex, but it IS part of a larger discussion about taking the internet back from corporations.

uhauljoe,
@uhauljoe@lemmy.world avatar

I kind of agree with you here.

I can’t really articulate why I have a bad feeling about Threads but I just do. It’s owned by Meta which we know is just about as far on the opposite end of the spectrum as you can get from decentralization. They’re a HUGE corporation.

I just feel like I don’t want them anywhere near places like Lemmy because I feel like they’re going to try and ruin it, because they can’t profit off of decentralization.

Again, I’m not educated enough about this stuff to know HOW exactly they would do that, but I just know I like the idea of moving away from corporations and towards the fediverse, and I’m nervous about what will happen if corporations try to move into that space.

uhauljoe,
@uhauljoe@lemmy.world avatar

ok yes!!! it feels like they’re trying to be all friendly and join our space but there’s something creepy and sinister about it

damn i can’t believe that’s actually a real thing

[5} It’s certainly doing the job lol

And the freezer definitely helps, wow!!
