What Trump’s Victory in Iowa Reveals. The result also offers him some warning signs (www.theatlantic.com)

Donald Trump’s victory in the Iowa caucus was as dominant as expected, underscoring the exceedingly narrow path available to any of the Republican forces hoping to prevent his third consecutive nomination. And yet, for all Trump’s strength within the party, the results also hinted at some of the risks the GOP will face if it...

A former president just barely got over 50% in the first-in-the-nation Iowa Caucuses and we're describing his victory as "dominant" and a sign of strength instead of a historically weak showing from someone who's already had the job. The media continues to not know how to talk about him.

It's the guy above in this thread saying "Strawman arguments are so boring & ineffectual."

Thanks Ernest, please do get that app going if you can! :)

I was using Kbin on Artemis without any login, and was pretty much fine to just lurk, but having no app at all is a real bummer. I’ll check out Lunar in the meantime but I’m itching to contribute more to Kbin as a logged in user.

Thanks for your service. Pity Artemis had such an abrupt and unhappy ending.

Imagine someone defending Trump calling anything “a tragic day for the rule of law.”

It’s just an easy joke people make on the internet.

Artemis app broken - is the project still alive?

I've enjoyed using Artemis even though I can't login through it (I'm on kbin). It's been interesting to be a pure lurker instead of an avid commenter like I was on the former site. In the past couple of days, though, Artemis has failed to fetch any new content. Deleting the iOS app and reinstalling through Testflight does...

It’s a bummer because I would definitely pay for a working Artemis app with kbin login. They were so close. I’d have paid at least the Pro cost of Apollo for it.

No Kbin support in that one, apparently. And no way to browse while not logged in.

@daringfireball I'm really surprised by the unseriousness of this argument, John. By decrying the "far left" you seem to be saying "I'm a centrist," so let me say first, "me too." The situation in Israel and Gaza is extremely complicated. Books have been, and will continue to be, written about how we got here (wherever "here" is at the time of publication). I disagree with anyone who says the situation is entirely Israel's fault. How can you justify making a turn from there to "these students should be expelled from college" for expressing their beliefs, no matter how misguided and wrong you think they are? That is a stunningly illiberal position. You're essentially endorsing the cancellation, to use the modern parlance, of these students, where they lose their job prospects and educational opportunities. Meanwhile, cancellation is a favored tactic of the "far left" you so ostentatiously call out.

I suppose it's fitting that a commentator whose livelihood depends on staying in Apple's good graces posted such a statement the day after they cancelled The Problem With Jon Stewart over an editorial disagreement about China. Tell me John, if you can: What happened in Tiananmen Square on June 4, 1989?

I'm glad I left reddit for other platforms where thoughtlessly cynical takes are also upvoted to the top.

Is that what it depends on? An earlier version of the Artemis app said that additional instance logins were coming in version 0.2.1 I believe, and it’s currently on 0.2.0. It also worked when I first started using Artemis before an update took it away.

It doesn’t seem like it’s dependent on API development.

Microsoft to unbundle Teams from Office, seeks to avert EU antitrust fine (www.reuters.com)

Microsoft (MSFT.O) said on Thursday it would unbundle its chat and video app Teams from its Office product and make it easier for competing products to work with its software, but rivals said it may need to do more to stave off a possible EU antitrust fine....

Meanwhile back in the US we'll continue to be forced by our employers to use it because there isn't sufficient regulatory oversight here.

I bought PS+ earlier this year for the first time ever and regret it even at its current price. It was an experiment but it failed for me.

Even Clarence Thomas’s Law Clerks Can’t Defend His Misconduct (nymag.com)

After the most recent revelations, Thomas’s defenders have gone conspicuously silent. Organs like National Review and conservative legal apparatchik Ed Whelan, who loudly dismissed evidence of wrongdoing by Thomas, have had nothing to say about Thomas’s many billionaire patrons....

It is an absurd statement to argue that the average cyclist on the average bike can sprint to over 30mph "without much trouble." Maybe with a tailwind going downhill, and even that is, ahem, dangerous.
