@amy BTW, earlier this year I bought a Ricoh GR21 and that’s my main camera all the time. It’s the perfect camera for me.

@amy I don’t. I just pay the lab to do it all.

I use to scan the prints. But now I just get dev and negative scan. I don’t do or get prints.

It’s an expensive hobby but the dev/scan/print part is not joyous for me. Just the shoot and share parts are.

The mental trick that I used for myself was to preteens like film isn’t expensive (while shooting). To just pretend that it was the 1990s.

It lowered the stakes of every photo. I just shot what I felt like. I think the result is that I got better photos. Instead of overthinking each one.

What are some online education platform for computer science type stuff that people enjoy? HackerRank is just problems, a lot of which seem pretty silly to me and are explained pretty poorly. Most of the challenge is just trying to figure out what they're actually trying to get you to do.

I'd like something with problems to solve, but also some actual educational value.

    I only care about .ps files because InDesign won't "export" PDF for a booklet (zine). It'll only "print" to a printer… or to a .ps file.

    I used to be able to convert from .ps to .pdf in Preview. Now, I'm looking around for other options.

    @collin also, I’ve started exploring Zed as a replacement for TextMate. Bc sadly, TextMate is just frozen in time, not really being worked on, used by anyone, or supported for new stuff (newer CSS syntax, copilot, et al).

    So far, I’m liking zed! Just gotta retrain a decade plus of TextMate muscle memory. 🙃

    Can anyone recommend me a data model visualizer that works with ? Ideally I can drop my schema.rb on it and get something that turns that into showing me all of the relationships and properties. If it was similar to this screenshot of the Core Data modeler, that would be awesome.

    I just (re-)fired it up on the CrimethInc. website codebase and first things first, it revealed to me that we have a model without a table.

    TODO:
    Confirm model is unused, delete it OR
    Confirm it's used, don't inherit from ApplicationRecord

    In addition to a useful diagram, I learned about (probably) dead code! 🎉

    I’m back on my bullshit of reading technical documents about Smalltalk from the 80s. I have a much clearer idea of how some of this stuff was actually implemented now, rather than just the concepts and design patterns.

    i do love the 1990s disposable camera snapshot aesthetic but i couldn't afford the disposable cameras then, and can't fathom spending the money on the development now.

    but good ol' digicams can really deliver because of their lower resolution and cheap/vintage/miniaturized optics.
