ICYMI: 🏺 Can a museum really forbid scanning their objects if they are presented publicly? A 2022 article by The Guardian presents us with a case between the Institute of Digital Archaeology against the British Museum. Is this a question about ownership?

Home-made Aurora Borealis from a nearby hilltop last night. (Don't know how to change colour to pink/green) otherwise no comment... other than an hour and a half spent in pitch dark with hundreds of others who too missed out the night before 😉 and the night after too

This is so frustrating, COVID hospitalisations increasing in all age groups over 55, yet boosters only going to those aged 65+. This is why I'm paying for a booster at Boots at the weekend, but I'm lucky I can afford it. It should be available more widely (particularly if rumours are true that in the Autumn the government was throwing away unused doses rather than give them to a wider age group).

@ArchaeoBasti i remember going to the natural history museum in 2015 to try their oculus rift experience (nearly 10 years ago!). it had to be a theatre-like experience to scale.

having visitors bring their own kit adjusted to their eyesight and able to be used while walking will make a difference. however, the price will have to come down a lot first and it's a chicken-and-egg situation as to when adoption will happen.

@ArchaeoBasti a more recent example would be the palette of van gogh at the musee d'orsay. this is also available online as a 360-degree version though i would guess it loses something. just seeing closeups of the brushwork via normal video is pretty amazing.

No IMA Meeting this week. COVID in our house after avoiding it for so many years.

Likely exposure at work due to irresponsible young adult coworkers and business owner despite wife's masking. ERs report high traffic and wait times so I suspect there is an outbreak in NoVA. Meds prescribed due to high risk health.

COVID is not gone. Assume you have been exposed. Mask up, sanitize, stay 6 ft away when speaking to protect others. That person you are talking to may not be immune compromised but they may have someone at home who is.

Hoping to stay out of hospital here and better within a week.

I'm going to get personal for a second here:

My husband had surgery this morning, and I am just so damn grateful he's alive.

It wasn't anything extreme, but it was under full anesthesia, and there are few feelings that hit me harder than seeing someone I love being wheeled away into surgery looking completely vulnerable.

I'm wiped out and signing off for the night, but I hope I passed some of my relief-joy on to all of you.
