Fun tip of the day.

Try out different systems and note when features change.

Why? Well, check out the Gravatar images attached to this post. One is for my profile (1). The other, I added ".json" to the end of the URL (2) because I remembered they used to have an option for viewing a profile in JSON format. The user interface (UI) changed to remove that link, but the data is still there. And the JSON page has extra data not found in the other UI.

Who has 2 thumbs and is ready for the SANS Summit today? This guy is!

Doing in the USA and run across a license plate? It can be absolutely overwhelming to figure out what state that plate comes from with the over 8,000 combinations of states and specialty plates currently in use. Don't believe me? Check out https://www.beautifulpublicdata.com/all-of-the-license-plates-in-the-united-states/

Made another pretty thing. Pen for scale.

webbreacher,

@chrisculling PLA (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VJ2RHKF). Bought it. Dehydrated/dried it. Then printed and it just works.

webbreacher,

@chrisculling Thanks...wish I could take credit for the cool filament. I rarely paint my prints so I look for cool filaments to make them pop.

  • webbreacher,

@mubix 100% agree with this. IMO, end users need an awareness against common user-based attacks that may exploit them AND cyber security and physical security teams need to continually try to identify and defend those users against attacks. One cannot be done without the other but requiring end users to become cyber security aware may take them away from the work they were hired for.

    I made something pretty today.

    webbreacher,

    @jerry thanks!!

    webbreacher,

@Lee_Holmes I saw that "Velcro" like substances are available to print on places like https://www.printables.com/. Very cool!

Open-Source Intelligence () techniques are amazingly powerful but some age quite poorly. The techniques you learned last year, may not be useful today. Stay current. Keep learning.

Yes, I have courses on My OSINT Training but I wanted to point you today, to the free SANS OSINT Summit, a free day of virtual OSINT learning https://www.sans.org/cyber-security-training-events/osint-summit-2023/.

I created the OSINT Summit when I was working for SANS and found that, after the conference, my OSINT eyes were opened on many areas I hadn't thought of before.

"Privacy guy" Micah here with another tip for you. If you use Google Chrome browser, you should know that the browser itself is now tracking more of what you are doing to deliver ads to you.

You can turn much of this off by visiting the Settings and then clicking the numbers in the image.

    webbreacher,

@GraniteGeek I didn't either until Chrome updated. It also might not roll out everywhere (like the EU)

    webbreacher,

@USBTypeSTeve Absolutely and yet, sometimes we might need to use that browser so I was sharing for those that want to try to be a bit more secure.

    RyanDFIR, to twitter

Here's a fun example showing Unfurl parsing a link from a email. It features:
🇺 - Separating the URL into its components
    🔗 - Expanding a shortlink
    UU - Identifying a UUID
    ❄️ - Extracting a timestamp from a ID (snowflake)
    @ - Explaining a Twitter URL parameter
👀 - Explaining common analytics parameters
    🕓 - Decoding a timestamp to human-readable form

There's more in there, too! It's amazing how much can be extracted from a URL!

    webbreacher,

@RyanDFIR I am always impressed by how amazing unfurl is.

It's time. Out with the old. In with the new (left)

    webbreacher,

@stoner I've seen people take pictures of the stickers on their old laptops and then make a sticker out of it to put on the new one.
