The one critique way too few people are making of generative AI is its pure mediocrity in style and taste.
What a joke that they advertise the use case of “give me ideas for…”: the computer never manages to surprise with its suggestions.
And the style. Even if you show it a reference how to speak in a certain tone, even if you fine-tune it on a the works of an author with colorful prose, it never manages to pastiche it with panache, to capture the texture. Its sentence construction never displays a sense of adventure.
There’s a fair amount of talk about the ability of models to rhyme and count syllables, but the ability to follow a form isn’t what poetry is about, it can be penned outside of an established form. The most touching verses I saw from LLMs were mostly abstract nonsense in the GPT2 days, making it easy to project your own meaning onto words that were more thematic material than coherent sentences. The newer models have only grown into worse poets.
Reversion to the main as an aesthetic: I think it spurred me to embrace including even more idiosyncrasies informed by my french background and my autism into my writing.
Don't get me wrong i have a mile long server blocklist (60% fash, 30% libs, 10% pedos)
A big perk of being a self-hoster is that i can just nuke big servers willy nilly
Come on, we already had the EXACT SAME STORY like, if i remember right, 4 months ago? Normie cissie novelist wrote about the most milquetoast hetero sex possible and lost her google account.
Don’t leave your gas stove unattended on high for 6 hours. Don’t drive down the highway blindfolded. Don’t put your life’s work on an American Company’s server. Don’t drink bleach.
