zabadoh,

from the MAL reviews of the source manga: myanimelist.net/manga/122150/Isekai_Shikkaku

Isekai’d hero doesn’t care about saving the world. He only wants to commit suicide with his lover in his first life that he suspects has also been isekai’d to the same world.

Things turn out okay, despite his best efforts to kill himself, e.g. He poisons himself with the intent to commit suicide, but he can’t die, so his blood becomes poison to enemies who attack him (paraphrased from a MAL review)

It’s a comedy.

It doesn’t sound like the strongest concept, but 10 volumes of manga and still going…

Positive MAL reviewers say to read until the 7-8th chapter when the writing kicks in.

Now, THIS may be an interesting indicator on the state of the Japanese anime industry…

This is actually a Chinese animated adaptation of a Korean manhwa, that’s getting a Japanese dub.

Are the Chinese studios going to start buying up rights to adapt good IPs, leaving Japanese-backed productions out in the cold?

Remember that article about the Japanese yen being devalued so much that they can’t afford to outsource their animation work to overseas studios?

That also applies to buying rights to non-Japanese sources, such as Korean manhwa, which are becoming more important as source material that appeals to an international, not just a Japanese, audience.

If other nations’ animation studios grab good IPs, and release them on the Japanese market, the anime profits go overseas, then Japanese studios may start going bankrupt because they can’t compete on a production pricing level.

Specifically, the more Chinese studios get involved in high-level production decisions, that may subtly affect the social attitudes that get the funding to become animated, i.e. no anti-authoritarianism, government is always right, Westerners are baka imperialists, etc.

edit: Not that there aren’t subtle things in anime either, e.g. missing discussion about the role of Japan’s Imperial government in WW2.

p.s. The flag in the background in the full photo in the article indicates that this happened in Taiwan, not mainland China.

zabadoh,

And Hideaki Anno formed studio Khara, which has been financially supporting Gainax, and is a major creditor.

Khara (and Anno) has now acquired the Gainax trademark and serves as the manager of the trademark.

zabadoh, (edited )

The good news is that:

Co-founder Hideaki Anno’s current studio Khara acquires Gainax’s trademark

You couldn’t ask for the Gainax IP’s to be in better hands than the most accomplished of Gainax’s founders.

zabadoh,

An opinion piece from the right wing echo chamber…

Every single article on the home page right wing slant about the Trump trial.

zabadoh,

It’s such a convoluted plot. I don’t even remember where it left off… I hope there will be some recap episode(s).

Wisconsin attorney general files felony charges against attorneys, aide who worked for Trump in 2020 (apnews.com)

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul filed felony forgery charges Tuesday against two attorneys and an aide who helped submit paperwork falsely saying that former President Donald Trump had won the battleground state in 2020....

zabadoh,

Those involved in the fake elector scheme aren’t just criminals, they’re traitors who really need to be dealt with severely.

Fraud trial juror reports getting bag of $120,000 and promise of more if she'll acquit (apnews.com)

A juror was dismissed Monday after reporting that a woman dropped a bag of $120,000 in cash at her home and offered her more money if she would vote to acquit seven people charged with stealing more than $40 million from a program meant to feed children during the pandemic....

zabadoh,

Since she dropped the money off with the police, the person who owns the money can come and claim it.

If nobody claims it within a certain period of time, then the money is officially hers to keep.

If someone does come and claim it, then they will probably get in a lot of legal trouble.

i.e. The money’s about as good as the former juror’s. She just needs to wait.

zabadoh,

Good point!

zabadoh,

The Guardian has an international writing staff.

The author of this article, if you click on her name, for example:

Rachel Leingang is a democracy reporter focused on misinformation for Guardian US. She is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Here’s her LinkedIn, saying she has 10 years of reporting experience after going to the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications in Arizona for 4 years. www.linkedin.com/in/rachel-leingang-6a044b2a

zabadoh,

Kilauea’s kind of constantly erupting isn’t it?

Not yet. More like the continued flow of refugees from the climate-related collapse of agriculture in Central America, and the resulting criminal gang takeover of the countryside there.

www.wfpusa.org/countries/dry-corridor/

reliefweb.int/…/climate-extremes-food-insecurity-…

The US is partly responsible for advancing Central American gang culture, by inducting disorganized immigrant gangs into organized violent gang culture by putting them alongside US domestic gangs in prison, then deporting them.

The other major part is the flow of money from Mexican drug cartels to ensure drug transportation corridors, which of course, is largely funded by sheer size of the US drug market.

Day Zero when Mexico City runs out of water is expected near the end of June, unless they get some rain.

zabadoh,

Skydance: Started and run by Larry Ellison’s son, David Ellison, and being that, it’s impossible for him to run out of money.

I hope he’s a Trekkie.

zabadoh,

I wish that made me more confident that they can make decent Trek movies and TV, but it doesn’t

Wind Breaker is definitely good. Not quite great, like Dungeon Meshi, but very watchable.

The MC, Haruka Sakura, is a parody on the “fight to become top delinquent” type of main character. His strange appearance with bi-colored hair, and odd eye colors, set him apart as the freak that he is. He even has 2 girls names.

The local delinquent gang is loved by the local merchants, and when they’re not fighting other roving gangs, they do positive social work.

The highlight so far has been the gorgeously animated fight in episode 5.

zabadoh,

Okay, but what is bad about it?

zabadoh,

It sounds like you liked the source material.

Sorry it got a bad adaptation.

zabadoh,

On the other hand, her faith in Mortal Kombat appears to be genuinely sincere.

zabadoh,

The labeling on any kind of product doesn’t represent where it came from.

China makes all kinds of shtuff with English and a zillion other languages, and localizes them for export.

I’m sure American arms manufacturers do the same.

zabadoh,

I’ll leave that up to your expert opinion.

An ammunition in possession of an army is that army’s bomb, regardless of who made it.

There could an Israeli-made bomb in the possession of Hamas, for example, but one wouldn’t call it an Israeli bomb except under very specific context.
