Power is going to be out for most of the day as we get our electrical panel in the basement replaced. The old one was probably put in in the 1980s and has never been really maintained all that well. It's also a 100 A system so we'll be upgrading to 200 A while we're at it (just in case we want to buy an electric car in the future I guess).

All right, back to some Dwarf Fortress lead-up to the upcoming Adventure Mode update! We've survived Goblins, vampires, magma, and an Etton. We're now a County with a promotion to Duchy not too far off in the distance. We'll probably need to plan out a Royal Bedroom soon enough.

We've got steel production but I need to set up some stockpiles before we automate it.

After that? We get our standing army going. 😈

last night I had this dream I was working at a restaurant called "Lucky's" (it's logo was a 4-leaf clover). It was my first day as a waiter, and I was being trained by this young employee who absolutely hated me. To make things worse, the restaurant was huge and we were the only two wait staff working there.

I kept getting lost trying to show customers their tables. People were lining up to be seated and people were not getting their orders. I couldn't figure out the POS system.

So yeah.

This little guy has been hiding on our deck all night. It's been snowing all night and normally they hang out under the deck but today they seemed to prefer this spot.

Sorry for the blurry photo but it's the best I could do. If I tried to move the blinds I might spook them. 😮

We have our artificial river and it is operational! I'm hoping that one day it will become a fishing spot but I'm not sure if the screw pumps will interfere with fish propagation so I'll just continue monitoring.

For now though we have a new Mayor, and new Noble positions to fill. Our population has soared past 50 so I have to be wary of werebeasts now. There's a vampire so I gotta deal with him too. The !FUN! never ends!

We sent out an expedition, but they got lost along the way and found themselves in the middle of an untamed badlands. The expedition decides to take foot here however, as there it underground water, iron, and copper. Will this be the site of our new mountainhome?

So, we're gonna perform the ultimate #DwarfFortress save scum: we're starting this embark over from the very beginning.

Lessons learned: I need to focus on armor and the military much earlier in this game. I had been trying hard to ramp up my glass industry and clear-cutting the untamed wilds forests turned out to be a Bad Idea(TM).

I need to design the front entrance better to capture wildlife and vile forces alike.

I should settle for low-value furniture early on do build rooms out quickly.

One of the downsides of self-hosting your own video platform is that you pay for everything out of pocket. It's not prohibitively expensive, but the costs do add up.

Today I'm deleting old streaming videos, but first I'm downloading them and sending them to a my local archive. Eventually I plan on backing everything up to optical drive, but for now the RAID 10 array I have set up will have to do.

Thankfully #PeerTube lets me do this easily.

Yesterday We became a barony before we had even elected a mayor, which is a first for me. We have our initial set of magma forges set up and are getting our stockpiles ready as well. But first, we must make sure our nobles are happy or there will be !FUN!.

There is a sort of hierarchy when it comes to web development and you're developing a new feature:

1. First check to see if it can be done in HTML
2. Failing that, check to see if it can be done in style sheets
3. If that isn't feasible, then fall back on JavaScript

I run into a lot of situations where developers try to jump right into JavaScript when a simple CSS solution exists that handles all edge cases cleanly. Or even HTML for that matter.

It looks like this season is looking to be exceptionally dry here in #Minnesota. The past couple of weeks have seen "elevated" wildfire risk warnings. We might get some rain in two days but I'm not counting on it. Other than that the weather looks dry as a bone throughout the extended forecast.

I'm predicting we could see this extend through the summer, possibly even worse than last year.

I got a friend request on Facebook from someone whose banner image looked like an AI-generated image of a family. The children all looked eerily similar to each other and their teeth looked weird. There were other uncanny valley elements to the photo that raised a few red flags.

Turns out, the photo is legit. So is the friend request. She's a distant relative whom I've never met, but she is real. As is the family photo. And the creepy kids.

I decided to ignore and delete the request. 😉🤣
