Shitposting at the speed of light. I have the power of God and anime on my side. … That should probably be a pop song or something.

Easy HTTPS for your private networks (www.getlocalcert.net)

This webpage provides instructions for using the acme-dns DNS challenge method with various ACME clients to obtain HTTPS certificates for private networks. Caddy, Traefik, cert-manager, acme.sh, LEGO and Certify The Web are listed as ACME clients that support acme-dns. For each client, configuration examples are provided that...

zergling_man,

Go up top of the domain - the old way - jump on the highway, in the left lane, turn off into Sandy Bay Rd. The climb up Davey near council is much easier than anything in Salamanca, plus the new track around the front has that stupid kink in it that nukes your speed. Not to mention the road down lol.

zergling_man,

tourists :(

zergling_man,
  • Go Salamanca on the way back though, hang right at the last lights before the corner to Argyle and take the footpath back up.

Cancel Amazon Prime [2021] (archive.ph)

Amazon Prime is a remarkable success but also dystopian. It has made convenience and speed the norm, habituating consumers to buy more products. Prime’s flywheel effect - where more customers lead to more data and scale which attracts more customers - has fueled Amazon’s dominance. Prime subscribers spend twice as much and...

zergling_man,

You will live in the pod and eat the bugs because you lack the mental capacity to resist it.

zergling_man,

Harmless and useless lol, pedal power can outstrip them on the flat.

zergling_man,

So, firefox achieving feature parity with lynx? :^)

Are all these thousands of lemmy servers useless?

Correct me if I'm wrong. I read ActivityPub standards and dug a little into lemmy sources to understand how federation works. And I'm a bit disappointed. Every server just has a cache and the ability to fetch something from another known server. So if you start your own instance, there is no profit for the whole network until...

zergling_man,

It only takes one user for an instance to not be empty. Every bit of decentralisation adds resilience to the whole. But more decentralisation adds more resilience, so let’s try to spread out the communities and users.

Email is the oldest Federated service.

I was struggling to wrap my head around how federated social media works until I realized that email has basically been doing the same thing for 30 years. Different email servers are like instances of a federated network. You can send emails to people from within a single server or you can send emails to people on any other mail...

zergling_man,

Surprisingly I've heard that the email analogy is not very useful for explaining federation. But I guess not that surprising with people <=18. They've probably never even had an email address outside of school provisions or whatever.

zergling_man,

Because they use fone number to register for things instead

zergling_man,

Even Signal, the gold standard of encrypted messaging Who actually believes this? Journos don't count, of course.

Converso is not open source lol, lmao

zergling_man,

Their encryption might be good but signal itself is glowie as fuck.

Install Lemmy from Scratch docs seem broken (join-lemmy.org)

I'm trying this on Ubuntu 22.04 Rust's cargo install seems to keep creating permission problems between what I have to install, compile and what gets published in the cargo "registry", which causes issues at runtime when I run as lemmy:lemmy through systemctl....

zergling_man,

... Build as non-root, install as root? AUR PKGBUILD just werks. All the functions in here are run as non-root though, the package() function installs to a fake directory tree, and then pacman, run as root, copies that into real tree. It works out to be one file total. Not sure why cargo install wants to put some other garbage in.

zergling_man,

Oh and warning to anyone who wants to use that AUR package: You'll need to fix pkgver and _commit before running it. Actually fixing pkgver may not be necessary. But yeah, grab the commit hash for 0.17.3 tag.

Why are there automatically banned users on my instance? (lemmy.pineapplemachine.com)

I haven't banned anyone, and as far as I know none of the other users on my instance currently have moderation privileges. So why am I seeing two users in a "banned" list when I visit my instance settings page? What horrible, unforgivable things did these users have to do for my instance to ban them seemingly of its own...

zergling_man,

You should make a community called "pizza" on your instance.

Taisei Project is such an underrated FOSS remake of Touhou Project! (taisei-project.org)

Taisei (as well as Touhou series) is a 2D vertically-scrolling danmaku (bullet hell) action game, placed in a fictional world of Gensokyo. The goal is to escape from hundreds of bullets. Touhou series originally began in late 1990s by a developer called ZUN for PC-98 and, later, for Windows computers. Development of Taisei...

zergling_man,

Another game with fucking Discord. But at least they also list email addresses.

I spent about an hour trying to get the fucktard wacko build system they use to work, all for the game to complain about rendering shit and not work

  • from a friend.

This is where I realise that I really do only enjoy the doujin part of 2hu. Aya-chan gets an exception because Aya-chan. I still suck at her game ofc. The killer sell would be multiplayer; I'd be 200% down for it given that.

zergling_man,

Yeah IDK, it worked flawlessly for me from AUR. PKGBUILD go brrrrrrrrr

Why is it so annoyingly hard to set up a Fediverse node?

Everyone (and their mother) have been trying to convince me that I should use one of my less loaded servers to be a Fediverse node. However, all Fediverse software packages I checked only support being installed on complicated systemd + Docker machines. My servers don't have either of those, because neither systemd nor Docker...
