I see many communities that got started in the last ten days. Sadly, some that I'm most interested in are not that active. Some are not active at all....
I'm actively looking into getting the kbin project installed locally so I can get some UI/UX pull requests going. I've given it a good go today but keep running into issues getting it set up, I've already logged a report and joined a forum with other devs but everyone is busy AF with their own thing so I guess all I can do is wait :(
It sucks to to be stuck.
If randomly there's a person on here who's familiar with docker and yarn I could use all the help I can get!
see attached image, but basically having the images on the right side makes it so hard to "read" a post with an image, going back and forth with your eyes to "get" the whole post. So much easier to just put the images between the up-/downvote buttons and the text post....
The layout of the cards themselves are done with CSS templates, so it should be enough easy to bind their layout to an option (image on the left/right, similar to how you have show/hide compact mode)
I've got a feeling the layouts will be optimized over time, it's only the first few weeks since the Reddit migration.
I think exposing various settings to control the position of thumbnail would be pretty handy eventually. Got to not go overboard on settings but giving some options should help users find a layout that works best for them :)
This is sometime I wanted to tackle since it looks like the layouts are CSS templates. But I'm still getting the project set up
Thanks to a comment by @LargeHardonCollider , I checked and saw that 'Federation debugging' mode was enabled. I had enabled that when the server just started (less than 3 weeks ago) and I had an issue with federation....
The silver lining is that hopefully we can get a few people off Reddit and onto here and eventually grow these spaces. I do miss the thousands of upvotes and comments though, but that'll come in time
As the fediverse continues to grow, let's reflect on some of the things that we disliked most about posting/lurking on reddit and what we can do differently now that we have a chance to build something new.
While a better system might be one where you can apply a range of reactions to a post, that would probably make things look cluttered and spammy (if a post has a dozen different reactions on it)
The upvote/downvote system seems like the most useful one, at least right now while people are migrating over and these sites are in the expansion phase
Cheers I'll give it a look too see if I can find those missing files, I was under the impression docker files could be ran anywhere, if it was made just to run on debian I might be out of luck. I've got the Linux subsystem for Windows installed (it's part of docker for Windows)
Hopefully I'll be able to track this down so I can get it running, pretty keen on helping out on some UI issues to improve the mobile experience.
Ah thanks mate I'll give that a go. When I tried to install yarn the first time it came up with a different error about not finding something. I'll try that way
Thanks, I've joined the channel, hopefully one of them will be able to tell me why I can't get past the 'yarn install' part, I keep getting errors about missing resources (it says its missing vendor dependencies, there's not much in the vendor folder right now)
I ended up giving this a go (starting again and instead of doing an npm install, I tried just a yarn install) and I ended up getting this error yarn error with yarn install
When I look into /vendor there's very little in here, that file doesnt exist it seem missing directory in vendor
Really strange, unsure what exactly I'm missing here now
Are you doing your part?

Posting slowness issue seems solved!

Why do some people still have hope for Reddit?
After all the BS from /u/spez?
What were some "bad habits" on reddit that we should try to avoid bringing over here?

Installing kbin.social locally, anyone know what this issue might be?
Hey guys. I've been trying to get kbin.social running on my local machine outlined here but I'm running into issues...
