Entirely speculation, but I think this might be why some of the dominoes are already falling?
Like maybe all the ads pulled out of Twitter and saw that it didn't impact the ad companies very much?
If so, it could be the true end to Web 2.0

Bluesky temporarily halts sign-ups because so many people are joining from Twitter (www.theverge.com)

Bluesky, a decentralized Twitter-like social network, is pausing new signups “temporarily” to try and resolve performance issues it’s been experiencing after Twitter introduced limits on the amount of tweets you can see in a day. Even though you still need an invite code to be able to join Bluesky, it seems that the influx...

I'm no expert, but I found this blogpost insightful: BlueSky is cosplaying decentralization

The more I read about BS’s protocol, the more I think this is done on purpose.
Why? Because it allows BS to pay lip service to decentralization, without actually giving away the power in the system.
[..]
Another pretty good sign that BS’s decentralization is actually b.s. is the fact that the Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) used by BlueSky are currently “temporarily” not actually decentralized. The protocol uses something imaginatively called “DID Placeholder”. If I were a betting man I would bet that in five years it will keep on using the centralized DID Placeholder, and that that will be a root cause of a lot of shenanigans.
[..]
it decentralizes the cost to the central authority by pushing data load onto volunteers, while planning to keep control by being the biggest kid on the “reach” block.

Making people unaddicted to twitter deliberately is definitely a W

I really like being able to confirm that something isn't made up or blown out of proportion, being able to quickly check stuff like 'how many people even agree with this take (a lot of times people leave out the engagement of a post)' and 'is this a genuine person in the first place (check out their profile or other posts)' to not poison discourse with made-up issues
That said, as others in this thread have pointed to, libdirect should be encouraged so they can discourage traffic to the actual site
e: though nitter sadly seems to be out of commission for new tweets, rip

I'm kinda pissy cause the guy never even responded to being made aware of data like this and that
(i feel confident that he saw my comment cause he replied directly at my first one in the thread)

With that said, it wouldn't surprise me if Scalability and Funding were big issues. In regards to new user experience, I personally think https://joinmastodon.org/ does a great job, though maybe is a bit wordy in comparison to any 'sign up and type' social media

We are still playing catch-up to millennia worth of oppression. Rectifying historical disadvantages and creating a more inclusive learning environment are both boons that will benefit us in the long run. I don't think it's fair to call that racism. I agree with the need to fund primary education of these communities, that is very needed. I don't necessarily agree with (maybe I'm reading into your message a bit) that colleges don't heavily weigh all the other factors that they do for white people.
As an added bonus, why diverse teams are smarter

Seems like sensibly covering their asses given that it's still legally grey (read: noone has brought a significant enough court case) so I wouldn’t be surprised to see more opinions like this start to pop up from various big media hosts.

Article absolutely doesn't go into why someone might've thought it was bad, nice meme

my opinion nobody asked for, as someone who played it:
think the main story is great and that it touches upon a lot of cyberpunk themes in a very faithful way, not personally into GTA type gameplay and openworld, so that was a loss for me, but in general the world felt empty (why i tend not to like openworld) and the combat basic especially in comparison to anything promised a year before launch.
It also had some cute sidemissions here and there, particularly the Ghost in the Shell easteregg is tragic, and I enjoyed the sentient car (though I wish I could've been hanging out with my AI car alongside my tulpa)

19 Things A Real Man Does When He Is In A Real Relationship

I think the headline is provocative in that it may make men worry about not living up to a certain standard, which seems to be what got the comment-section riled up. The wording of the article suggests that men who don't live up to these standards shouldn't be worth the reader (presumed woman)'s time

Men [..] they have a natural tendency of being the provider in the family

Highly debated statement

A real man is one who has been through different experiences in life and does not let those experiences limit or define him. He has lessons from the past only to humble him rather than dwell on insecurities or in fear of those experiences. He looks at life not wanting to define it, judge it or to put it in a box. But he’s a man, who sees through it all and still finds and appreciates the good in life anyway.

It is generally good for any person to not dwell on insecurities. It is understandable to feel fear due to what you've experienced

Real men:

  • knows himself, is confident and has a spine

It's important for everyone to be well-realized people (or at least on about as well-realized a level as their partner), and it's beneficial to be someone who doesn't back down immediately when challenged, but everyone has their preferences, and it's definitely unfair to the non-confident men to say that they're not good enough to be real men. Wording like this can undermine people's self-esteem or sense of identity, which is really unnecessary. 'Let people who see themselves as men be men' basically

  • never gives up on you and gives you his all

This can be very unhealthy, and I've seen in real life people who decided they would keep pursuing a relationship with someone who has dropped them who continues to say no. Imo this can quickly lead to being caught

  • respect you
  • honors his promise
  • appreciates you
  • not afraid to be vulnerable
  • trusts you
  • loves you for your personality
  • takes initiative
  • he's not going to be your yes-man
  • protect you emotionally and physically
  • will consider your needs over his

I would hope these are mutual behaviors, setting up these expectations for only men would be weird, and while the article clarifies stuff like "women can of course protect themselves", it feels like the framing of "here's what men ought to do for you" leaves out the question of what a thriving relationship itself has to be.

I much prefer the original post's title, why'd you have to change it into something that it's not saying?
I also know the author is making it very clear this is only their opinion, but there's a lot they're saying that really would've been cleared up to them if they talked with 1 person who had a server they started after nov 22 that they had then shut down, and 1 person who currently has owned a server whether since 22 or prior
I will always agree in terms of user accessibility however. Though I'm curious what you think https://joinmastodon.org/ could do different

@Bloonface @LollerCorleone @Niello
I understand not wanting to throw names around who you didn't get permission from, but it would've strengthened what you are saying a bit in the reader's mind to throw other relevant people's opinions into the mix
I'm curious of your take on datapoints like presented in LollerCorleone and Niello's posts?

I guess it's not out of the question that the author does something out of left field, but tropes indicate that since Aqua has loose ends with Ruby from pre-rebirth, that they would find each other to love each other again
