YouTube will now show a blank homepage if you don’t have watch history on (www.theverge.com)

YouTube is changing the homepage experience for users who have their watch history turned off. They will now see an almost blank homepage with just a search bar and buttons for Shorts, Subscriptions and Library. This is intended to make it clear that personalized recommendations rely on watch history data. The new design aims to...

Geometric7792,

It's funny because I agree with you - out of everything that collects my data I get the most out of YouTube, it often recommends things I like quite a bit and it's the primary way I discover new music

You can't uninstall this software without being forced to participate in their survey (lemmy.world)

I initially only installed “Comodo Firewall” but for some reason they also installed a “Comodo Dragon Browser”, which I did not consent to. I always choose the “advanced” installation to uncheck bloatware, but in this case there was none and when you try to uninstall the browser, they force you to participate in...

Geometric7792,

hagrid / sorting hat is my personal favorite

Geometric7792,

Dockerized programs are easy to install and easy to make system agnostic. It's not always beneficial if you just have one system and you've already got a lot to learn about how to set it up, because it adds another layer of knowledge that you need to use it effectively. But if you're comfortable with *nix and tech in general it's nice to containerize stuff

Geometric7792,

why is nobody talking about a fake image? hmm

Geometric7792,

dude why would you name it that

Geometric7792,

I thought so too, but it isn't - it's a server that hosts your pirated games and a client that downloads from the server and installs them. It's like Steam or Epic games, but for pirated games.

Geometric7792,

mmm unjustified smugness, my favorite

Geometric7792,

That's only because our legislative branch is entirely ineffective.

Geometric7792,

Do you think a resturant refusing to serve black people would be okay?

Red Hat strikes a crushing blow against RHEL downstreams | The Register (www.theregister.com)

A superficially modest blog post from a senior Hatter announces that going forward, the company will only publish the source code of its CentOS Stream product to the world. In other words, only paying customers will be able to obtain the source code to Red Hat Enterprise Linux… And under the terms of their contracts with the...

Geometric7792,

You're upset that the headline didn't have data, details and specifics in it?...

Geometric7792,

It's ultimately because of capital. Capital controls resource allocation, so any project that requires resources will have to align with capital interests

Geometric7792,

Can't the other instances see what you saw via federation? Or does a self hosted lemmy instance federate all comments from all threads once it knows about a server?

Geometric7792,

If they vote in a way I don't like, they're a bot. If they don't vote in a way that I like, also a bot. In fact, if they vote at all, probably a bot

Do the Evolution by Pearl Jam

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aDaOgu2CQtI

Not even a fan of Pearl Jam, but the song's discordant guitar solo is perfect for its message, and captured brilliantly by the animation. I'm a sucker for late state American animation well-executed like this, too.

Geometric7792,

Most of the boss fights in MGS3, but I liked The End most of all

Geometric7792,

Why would you see a headline about them paying out? The entire point is to pay so that nobody knows it happened.

Geometric7792,

This is clearly a chatgpt post that you made references for

Geometric7792,

Mtg Arena, because I can play on my phone too, and I mostly don't have time for games otherwise

Geometric7792,

I'd eat pizza and burgers all day but I'd get fat

Geometric7792,

Defederating from the largest instances in an already tiny space will just kill us here.

For iOS users looking for an app, there is a quick and easy solution

I apologize if this has already been covered, but I’ve seen a lot of people talking about a need for a kbin app. While I agree that a native app would be nice to have eventually, I figured that quite a few people probably aren’t aware of how web apps work. I don’t use Android, so I have no idea if there is an equivalent...

Geometric7792,

It isn't behaving like a pwa for me :( is there a special url? I'm just using https://kbin.social. Creating a link just opens it as a tab in chrome.

Geometric7792,

What's the hyprocracy there? Do you mean ironic?

Geometric7792,

Thanks. I thought nobody was even replying to my comments until I realized that notifications for replies to comments were off by default on kbin, lol.
