GigglyBobble,

Was the study sponsored by Meta by any chance?

GigglyBobble,

Same for Facebook with Meta or Google with Alphabet. Stupid generic parent company names.

GigglyBobble,

Apple has a better track record of sticking things out

That's true and the reason why I couldn't stand staying in their ecosystem. Apple fans are just insufferable. They gobble up every shit Apple ditches out and cheer them on when they report just another record quarter paid by themselves.

GigglyBobble,

Probably exclusive content and proprietary tech so you use your favorite podcast player. 🤮

GigglyBobble,

At least middle children had their own TV show. Been a while though.

GigglyBobble,

While it won't become that bad ever again because of far more and better standardization, it has basically become a Webkit monopoly already. Sites often don't work (as well) on Firefox because web developers don't bother to do cross-browser testing anymore.

That was the actual (only) good thing with Internet Explorer: it coming with Windows endured significant adoption since many people don't bother installing another browser, especially in business environments. This forced web devs to make their sites and apps cross-browser compatible. With Edge being a Chromium browser that has gone out of the window.

GigglyBobble,

Nope. Chromium is the open source basis of Chrome but also developed almost exclusively by Google and already that one calls Google webservices. That's why projects aiming to "ungoogle" it exist.

GigglyBobble,

Firefox is a weird buggy mess that constantly freezes.

This is definitely not normal, Firefox never freezes for me. May be worth checking that out, especially your extensions.

GigglyBobble,

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of islands without reception all over the world.

GigglyBobble,

Awesome idea and the feedback suggests it works well, too. Any plans to support Firefox on Android?

GigglyBobble,

Definitely still the most widely used word. I guess it is changing because the younger generations speak better English in general and prefer using correct words.

What is you backup tool of choice?

I don’t mean system files, but your personal and work files. I have been using Mint for a few years, I use Timeshift for system backups, but archived my personal files by hand. This got me curious to see what other people use. When you daily drive Linux what are your preferred tools to keep backups? I have thousands of...

GigglyBobble,

I have no relevant data locally. My Documents is a symlink to a Nextcloud directory running on my Synology NAS on a RAID1 that backups to cloud storage via one of their tools (forgot which one).

I never liked having to backup working machines. If it breaks I'm fine with having to install again. I won't lose data though.

GigglyBobble,

Kann nicht sein. Dann wären Menschen deutlich kleiner als sie sind.

GigglyBobble,

Or it'll give you nothing because it's a fucking duplicate (of a tardigrade).

GigglyBobble,

Ich bin so froh, nicht solche Nachbarn zu haben. Guck in deinen eigenen Garten!

GigglyBobble,

That’s still totally insane.

And that's just Firefox. Sometimes I get annoyed if pacman presents me with a long list even though it takes a few minutes max.

GigglyBobble,

How long does the Linux kernel take?

GigglyBobble,

Thanks for your reply. I have to admit a stripped down kernel sounds intriguing. Maybe I'll switch from Arch to Gentoo some day after all!

GigglyBobble,

There are printer ink subscriptions? And here I thought, ink printers couldn't get more annoying (dried out every time I wanted to print, cartridges costing as much as the printer itself).

GigglyBobble,

I share the apparent majority view that these basically are claims without any kind of evidence and there's no basis for an outrage (yet).

However, I do find this dynamic interesting to discuss the same topic on different instances. That's unique to the Fediverse.

GigglyBobble,

Staying federated is the smarter decision, as users will stay on smaller instances, since they have a big pool of content from other instances, including corporate instances like threads or similar.

Speak for yourself. I don't want any content curated by that cancer of a company.

GigglyBobble,

Viele alkoholfreie Biere schmecken süßlich. Pilstrinker mögen das nicht, daher kann ich Jever Fun empfehlen. Normales Jever mag auch nicht jeder aber das alkoholfreie schmeckt genau richtig, finde ich.

Would you use threads if it respected your privacy?

I keep seeing everyone say their privacy is why they aren’t going to use threads. I don’t think that’s entirely true. I think most of us here have a hatred so deep for meta that even if they made the greatest app on earth, we’d still not use it. So, if threads actually respected your privacy would you use it?

GigglyBobble,

I never liked the concept of Twitter and therefore never used it. Why would I use a knock-off?

Regarding Meta and privacy let's never forget that Facebook started with stolen student data right in its first version. Zuckerberg is a piece of shit and can never be trusted.
