01 Jul: AGAINST ALL ODDS. 4 Ukrainian Fighters PULL OFF AN UNBELIEVABLE OPERATION | War in Ukraine (youtu.be)

TL;DR: The video focuses on the battles in the Rostov region. Ukrainian forces have successfully breached the last line of defense in front of Rostov, despite intense Russian resistance. The video highlights the strategic use of continuous assaults, infantry, artillery, and ambush tactics by the Ukrainians....

Is there any one else who feels like their life has been disrupted by this whole debacle with Reddit.

I really do like KBin and Lemmy and the fediverse on the whole, but development is still young and the userbase still growing. KBin is still basically early access, and Lemmy is buggy. I spent alot of time in reddit and I'm feeling the pain of trying to ween myself from it. Just wanted to here community perspectives and see how...

This isn't my area of expertise, but as I understand the present climate crisis, it's actually misleading to say we're "nearing the point of no return" as so many of these kinds of articles do.

Every single day we pass a brand new point of no return because every day we keep pumping fuel into positive feedback loops that are already in motion. Not only will biking to work not do shit; but even if humans just went extinct right now and all industry/pollution/etc came to a 100% stop, the climate will still continue to (albeit more slowly) spiral into new extremes. What we're feeling today is the 'find out' stage of climate inaction decades ago; and the damage we're doing today won't be be tangible for decades to come.

Best case scenario is the coolest of an array of hellscapes - we're in damage control mode. Rather, we should be in damage control mode; what we're actually in is grind-away-at-our-9-to-5-while-we-watch-oligarchs-consume-our-planet mode.

I'm still looking forward to Artemis on Android due to me being on kbin but I am SO happy that so many known apps are coming over!

‘A dangerous step backwards’: outrage at supreme court’s LGBTQ+ rights ruling (www.theguardian.com)

Civil rights groups and Democrats reacted angrily to the US supreme court decision in favor of the Colorado web designer Lorie Smith, who argued she had a first amendment right to refuse to provide services for same-sex marriages. Critics of the court’s decision say it ushers in a new era of prejudice in America....

This same religious belief/ free speech argument was used to justify Jim Crow back in the day and was struck down. I see a resurgence of apartheid as a result of this. Not a good time for the USA.

The basic principle is reasonable, but it leads directly to allowing businesses to go back to a "no blacks" policy. So it's one of those basic principles that just doesn't work in the real world in its pure form and needs to bend for the sake of a functional society.

Discrimination against protected classes isn't a fundamental freedom.

People who would propagate anti-queer hate in society should be coerced because fuck them.

They weren't denied access to all web designers or website makers.

There wasn't any they. There was no website. There was no case.

It was made up to strip queers of rights.

I had to do a double-take on this... I thought I was tripping to hear three explosive pieces of new development, from the US Supreme Court, all with a 6-3 vote, all erasing social progressiveness, within only two days... Saddening to say the very least, why is this happening

Silverseren,

It should be noted that the entire case was predicated on a lie. The website designer was suing to not have to make a wedding website for a same-sex wedding. They were never asked to do that in the first place. The guy who was asking for the website is married to a woman, so...yeah, the website designer just made things up when making the case.

Also, the ruling specifics from Gorsuch are terrifying, because he added in a comment in his ruling that this also applied to things like the Boy Scouts firing a gay scout master because they have a "religiously held belief" against gay people.

Your example makes a disgusting comparison. The basic demand of nazis is to enforce discrimination on others. The basic demand of the queer rights movement is to not allow others to discriminate against us.

So, a better example would be - should a nazi designer be compelled to provide services to a Jewish client, or a queer one, a disabled one, a Roma one, etc? And the answer is YES.

Right up until the next court case brought by a restaurant owned by a member of the Christian Identity church.

HandsHurtLoL,

I don't begrudge you for saying out loud like this, but I'm not sure who was at all under the delusion that this would ever be anything other than the worst outcome possible.

DigDoug,

The main thing I got from reading Huffman's comments about all of this is that, despite helping create Reddit, he doesn't actually know what Reddit is.

Reddit links to other websites, and hosts user-made posts/comments. That's it. And that's exactly why pissing off the mods who've spent years preventing Reddit from becoming a cesspool (see 4/8chan for what an unmoderated Reddit would look like) is a really bad idea.

Despite what Huffman seems to think - Reddit doesn't actually make any content of its own. But he seems to think that Reddit owns all of the content on the site. Well, it sure as shit doesn't own the other websites which are constantly linked to, which only leaves the user-created content, which the users are proving that Reddit doesn't own either.
