The second ring would be bridged to the ground (which is always what the sleeve is for audio stuff), which would disable the inline mic. You’re not using that anyways, so yes, that’s fine.

gloriousspearfish,

Just to add to your answer. This effect of mic beeing grounded when plugging TRRS into TRS jack is by design, to allow compatibility.

I feel down a rabbit hole, a few years ago wonder the same thing about C#. Here is what I found.

  • C# was developed in 2000 as a successor to C++. Doubling the ++ to a #.
  • C++ was developed in the early 80s as a successor to C. Adding plus (+) to a name was a common way of indicating it was an enhancement. Also ++ is the incrementing operator for C.
  • C was developed in the early 70s as a successor to the B programming language. C comes after B.
  • B was developed in 1969 and was derived from the BCPL language. Basically, B was a stripped down version of BCPL.
  • BCPL (Basic Combined Programming Language) was developed in 1967 and was a designed as an simpler version of CPL.
  • CPL (Combined Programming Language) was developed in the early 60s at Cambridge. The original name was “Cambridge Programming Language” but was changed to Combined when it was published jointly with the University of London.

Satisfactory.

I love making efficient systems and the freedom to do things the way I want to, such as by using the game's alternate recipe system.

The exploration and movement systems in the game are also to notch. It's not quite Titanfall, but I struggle to think of any other game where simply moving around is so fun. That's on top of how pretty the actual environment is to explore.

Wow ;) I'm incredibly lucky to have come across people like you. The authors of those posts are actually right - managing /kbin is a significant challenge nowadays. It requires extensive knowledge and experience to keep it under control. But also I've never hidden that fact - the information about it is placed at the very top of the repository's readme ;) However, as I mentioned, a lot is changing very quickly https://kbin.social/m/RedditMigration/t/122333/Fediverse-won-t-replace-Reddit-as-long-as-Lemmy-is-the#entry-comment-478779. And we're all working hard on it, to improve and automate as many things as possible. Thanks to all of you, I believe I can face it head-on, and together we can create a better place. Better internet. Not just this instance, but cooperation between platforms is the key here.

Unfortunately, there are delays occurring again - I've decided that smooth website operation will be the priority this time. There are approximately 450k tasks waiting in the queue, and everything will be handled, but it will take some time. Today, we're also conducting final tests of the new infrastructure. It's taking a while because we're documenting templates that can later be used by others to create their own instances. I hope these are the last issues we have to endure ;)

Thanks for everything.

A starting guide to kbin.social + support thread for new users

Frequently seeing users expressing confusion about the workings of kbin.social and the larger fediverse. Thought it was worth making an intro guide to iron out some of the wrinkles in the understanding of how all of this works in hopes of diminishing the barrier to entry the idea of federated content seems to pose. Some of this...

Are artists and creators not welcome in this community? (sh.itjust.works)

I decided to do a bit of a dive into this platform, and while I think it is an interesting idea, I am yet to find a space on Lemmy where I am welcome. I am an artist. I have a Patreon that pays my bills and puts food on the table. Generally, I give the majority of my stuff away for free to the community, but that usually comes...

If it helps, I have a negative reputation at the moment as well and couldn't figure out why. My understanding is:

  • "downvotes", which are called "reduces" on kbin, contribute negatively to your reputation score.
  • "upvotes", which called "favorites", do not contribute to your reputation score in either direction.
  • "boosts", which are similar to Twitter's retweet feature, are what contribute positively to your reputation score. When your comment/post/thread is "boosted" by another user, it shows up in the microblog/mastodon feeds of people following that user.

Maybe someone else more familiar with kbin and the fediverse can correct anything I have wrong.
