[Video]The English town that regrets Brexit (youtu.be)

"Brexit is a failure." Boston, small town of 70'000 inhabitants in northeastern England, has the highest proportion of people who voted out of the EU with 75% of votes for "leave". But Brexit left a bitter taste there and an important part of the population now regrets their choice....

SpermKiller,

I think there are some problems with federating to some lemmy instances. Try searching it on vlemmy.net with the url of your magazine. Mine can appear in the searches there but not on lemmy.world or lemmy.ml for example.

SpermKiller,

Yeah, how would she react in a rural part of SK? She was probably staying in Seoul or Busan, of course a small German town would feel quaint in comparison!

SpermKiller,

Recent developments are just another indication of the power struggle happening between Reddit and its most dedicated users. Reddit needs free content and moderation to exist, yet it doesn't want to give those critical players real control of site policies, even though they are largely responsible for much of the site's content and value.

Finally an article that goes a little further in details about how important good mods are for reddit.

Gardening enthusiasts are welcome to join us on Vegetable Gardening!

I created this community/magazine for people who garden with a focus on growing food - vegetables, berries and the like. The goal is to share tips, pictures, experiences and become a good ressource for gardening knowledge as well as a good place to brag about the size of your tomatoes! If you're interested to join or just...

SpermKiller,

Nice! My neighbours are growing some and I'm very curious about the taste. Is yours edible?

SpermKiller,

Did you change your avatar just for this comment?

SpermKiller,

I, for one, am looking forward to the zombie apocalypse that will result from this.

SpermKiller,

It seems the crux of the issue is that current technology uses pharma-grade growing medium, which is very expensive and has a bigger footprint, and the hope is that scientists can figure out a "food-grade" medium that would have lower emissions. Since costs are also affected, I'm sure companies have a lot of incentive to look for a more efficient way.

The technology is still relatively young, so I'm on the board of "wait and see".

SpermKiller,

I'm the opposite : I eat maggots without any issues but the crickets weird me out.

[Solved] Despite searching multiple times for my magazine on lemmy instances, I can't seem to find it. Am I missing something?

I created a magazine @VegetableGardening for my hobby and I'm trying to get the word out there. Unfortunately I can't seem to be able to "federate" it to Lemmy. I've tried searching with "all" enabled on lemmy.world and lemmy.ml, but all it does is show me my own comment mentionning the magazine on another federated magazine....

SpermKiller,

Meta is just a shell of its former self these days. I went back a few times recently and I shit you not : 3 out of 4 posts on my feed are sponsored or suggested content. Almost nothing of my friends, it's just full of garbage people are trying to sell, or clickbait videos.

SpermKiller,

It's called "lattughino verde" and it seems to handle the heat pretty well too!

SpermKiller,

It was delicious by the way. I'll be growing more!

SpermKiller,

Personally I was getting a bit tired of not having one of my interests here so I created the magazine for it. We'll just see if it takes off.
For some other niche interests...I'll wait and see, I don't feel invested enough to create the magazines for them.

(For those interested in vegetable gardening @VegetableGardening )

SpermKiller,

The article mentions using a "garlic spray" as a preventative to repel insects and birds, but personally I'm always a bit distrustful of spraying before there's even an invasion. What if I also repel good bugs? Pollinators?

What do you think? Have you tried the spray yourself?

SpermKiller,

That's what I thought! I haven't had the occasion of growing garlic yet but I find that keeping a diverse garden and using "trap plants" usually works well to keep the balance.

But it also depends on your environment. When I only had a balcony, snails were eating everything because there weren't enough predators to keep them at bay. Whatever I did they kept coming back and I could only grow plants they didn't like...and there aren't that many! Now that I've got a real raised bed, in the middle of my neighbours', I find that pests aren't as problematic as before. Some still come but they're easier to deal with.

SpermKiller,

At least it was only by one day, so it was still okay. Some of my neighbours have planted 3-4 summer squash, I don't know how they manage to eat them all! It seems I have a new one every other day, I'll be running out of ideas to eat them pretty soon!

SpermKiller,

Thanks, it's on my list of things to try! I already had a new ripe one today.

If I get tired of them I'll probably gift some to friends and neighbours.

I've seen a few discussions about the "failed" protests and wanted to talk about it

So I've seen a few posts regarding news outlets calling the protests a failure, and I don't really think that's the case. The protests have clearly made an impact, especially if the Reddit CEO is willing to oust MODS to reopen subreddits. I truly believe that something has been jump started here on Lemmy, Kbin, and all of the...

SpermKiller,

Yeah, I first took a look at lemmy and others a few weeks ago, when everyone was asking "what's an alternative?" and at the time, despite so many people talking about the fediverse, there weren't that many people or threads. And now look how active some communities are becoming!
