You better tell the mods to delete a good portion of the posts and this entire magazine then... I think it's perfectly normal question to ask and be curious about, if you don't want to hear about Reddit maybe don't sub to this magazine and contribute to the conversation about it?

unsophisticated,

Horrible idea. No one sees this button, no one knows what it does, and upvotes definitely should have that effect.

To the best of my knowledge, this is a temporary kbin-specific thing. Pretty sure I saw Ernest mention there is a change in the works with the next update... in fact: https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta/t/116811/PSA-every-interaction-you-make-with-various-posts-on-kbin#entry-comment-462816

I refined FixedFun's mascot design for Kbin. Thoughts? Feedback? (More pics/alts in post!)

I really loved @FixedFun 's idea for the kbin mascot, so I decided to refine it a bit and make some color alternatives. All credit to them for this wonderful idea! I merely refined it. Note, the circles beside the logo are just a color pallete swatch, not actually meant to be apart of the logo....

I just cant help but see the balding man...

Sinnerman,

Washington Post had an article about this with a lot more facts, a couple days ago:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/wellness/2023/06/27/ultra-processed-foods-predigested-health-risks/
(temporarily free article on a mostly-paywalled site.)

Bradamir,

Opposing political opinions are not trolls. Let's not be like Reddit where "opposite opinion" = bad.

Yup, I've got significantly more upvotes than downvote in total (only one reply of mine so far got downvotes, from the bigots it was calling out), but my overall score is still negative at the moment. Which I personally don't really care about, I just wouldn't want others assuming I'm a troll because of it.

Edit: looks like these last few replies got me off that negative rep lol, thanks

(I don't have the brain power to figure out any thing of any significance from this but if anyone is interested: 20 upvotes on replies today got me from -3 to +1)

Edit again: though having now posted an article from an indigenous perspective on a Canada day celebration post, I am already worse off from when I started lmfao

Relay for Reddit is continuing as a subscription service (feddit.uk)

Not sure how I feel about this tbh, fair play if that’s what he wants to do. I don’t think it will make me stay with reddit. The community feel of lemmy and kbin is making me finally enjoy contributing again. Towards the end with reddit it felt so… Pointless.

The idea of paying a monthly subscription to use reddit is so off-putting. Maybe if it were a company that I didn't feel so negatively about, I'd consider it.

Based on the prices the Apollo dev was slinging around, I highly doubt Relay will be around even after this guy "figures out" what to charge his users. Unless he's aiming for whales with deep pockets I give it maybe 3-6 months before he also folds. Reddit can also easily move the goal post on Relay, which is inevitable, because Reddit wants people to use thier app.

Crankpork,

I assume that once it's a subscription service most of that money will be going to Reddit, so you'd basically be paying for the privilege of not having to use their official app. That's just ghoulish.

Chariotwheel,

Germany of all countries has dippped into it: https://social.bund.de/

Not quite sure how this works without fax machines, but it does.

generalpotato,

Considering how well wefwef is kicking… Apollo kinda sort lives in spirit. For me, it’s more of being somewhat done with Reddit.

  • Terrible Coworkers (lampinc.net)

I find it mildly infuriating that some coworkers think entering a break room gives them license to play loud music over speakers, use obscene language (especially to and about other coworkers), and disrupt the fifteen minutes of peace and quiet some of us crave in the workplace....

    Eisenhowever,

As a regular user who doesnt like social media, this is something that all regular users should be aware of. You can easily get your info taken and processed in a way that becomes consistent with a shadow profile of you made by facebook or other companies in order to track you. There would be no difference in using kbin and using facebook if your info is open to everyone for companies to scrape and parse.

This will likely lead me to stop using kbin and wait for something more private oriented to come up

    I'm in Perth, Western Australia...

Favourite roaster for my standard morning flat white is Leftfield. All their roasts are blends on the medium/dark side, but consistently high quality.

(And... I just looked at their website for the first time in ages and see that they now have a whole bunch of single origins...)

For coffee nerd stuff, I like community coffee and blacklist. Blacklist are a third wave coffee shop, they do a whole heap of single origin roasts and do pourovers, etc, in the cafe.

I’m in Sacramento, California, USA and am a coffee roaster so I like my roastery. I don’t know the rules about self promo here so I’ll say around me (that aren’t me) the best are Mast, Temple, and Camelia.

Mast has the best coffee actually roasted in Sacramento if you brew your own, but the drinks in their cafes are always lackluster. Temple’s drinks are on point but I feel like they haven’t scaled well on the roasting side. Camelia has good coffee and I personally really like their packaging.
