Gog is doing much better than in 2022. They are making 1.2M dollars in profit. Which is pretty good for such a platform personally. I really like the ideals of GOG, but haven't really used the platform a whole lot....
I do not fucking understand this. You're never going to compete with Steam. But you have this niche of DRM free marketplace and you ignore the entire Linux community? A community that THRIVES on FOSS and DRM free software.
It's such an idiotic move to not develop a linux client. I will never fucking comprehend this.
Cyberpunk 2077 faced a tough reception at launch, but with the Phantom Liberty DLC nearing launch, one CDPR dev feels the RPG was better than history records....
Not to mention the story was still very much on rails. Even if there were like what, 3 different outcomes? And on top of that, once you beat the game there is absolutely fuck all to do.
Honestly. I put about 50-60 hours into cyberpunk. I enjoyed every single hour of it. But once the main campaign was complete, there was just nothing left to do. I tried many times to jump back in and go do side quests or explore but the world is just completely empty.
Right? The data they can collect there is pretty much entirely useless unless they can also gather the location of last connection. But even then, not terribly helpful.
Seeing stuff about reddit being posted to 10 different technology boards, plus reddit-themed ones, then reposted further just makes this whole idea a mess. Reposts have to be consolidated into a single comment thread.
There was just an update posted regarding lemmy that would allow for community merging. This is really going to be a game changer if they can figure out how to work that properly.
Because currently, it seems like the only thing it's recording are downvotes. Meanwhile upvotes are completely ignored, leading to pretty much every profile I see having a negative reputation....
And a boost is... what exactly? I feel like that system is going to lead to pretty much everyone being close to 0 or negative. Especially if downvotes federate between instances, as I don't believe boost is even an option for lemmy instances is it?

Communities from different instances should be able to merge, allowing users to see the content of all communities across different instances.
Holy crap this is huge news. There are quite a few subs I browse that seem to have fragmented into multiple different instances. Would be great to see those all merge together into one feed.

Doesn't this still have the same vulnerability of the potential for a hostile takeover similar to tor? Also, is there any way to use i2p to bypass geoblocking? If not that's a major reason why I and many people use vpns.
kbin has been the best community so far that I've found. I plan to stick around here for awhile. I've also got an account on lemmy.ca that I was using mainly for the hockey community. Now that kbin is able to access the wider fediverse I am not sure how much longer I'll keep using that account.

Could not agree more with just about every point this guy makes. I honestly think that federated services just do not work for some use cases. Primarily, social media. Kbin is working great as a replacement because it is far more centralized. The majority of the content is here, and the integration with the broader fediverse is a bonus.
I've been using Linux and FOSS for as long as i can remember. But decentralized services are not the be all end all solution that the FOSS community always seems to think it is.
Honestly, I joined lemmy.ml first before really taking a look at the ideals of most of that userbase and I just do not agree with a large part of what they identify with.
Bounced around to a few other instances that all seemed... Idk not the right fit. But kbin so far seems much more my style and I finally now got an account created so we'll see how it goes.
If you only criticize civilian casualties when Palestine resists, then your concern isn't civilian casualties. Your concern is Palestine resisting massacre. (lemy.lol)
