Do you need 3rd party tools to moderate on lemmy? Can you do it on mobile?
I have thoughts of starting some communities, but no point if I can't do it from mobile.
I recently opened the app to ensure that it infact does not work anymore, but it just showed me the newest feed, like it did before. What is going on here? Are people funding this? Or have they switched to a third party API for read only?
Yes, Infinity and Relay still working makes sense since they are going subscription model, but Boost still functioning is an anomaly.
Edit: Apparently as per a post on r/boostforreddit which references a post on r/redditdev, Reddit said the API changes would take place over the coming weeks. Not completely on July 1st.
I've noticed that some comments on threads will have a red, dotted line next to them, almost like it's the color coding for child comments, but it shows up occasionally on a top-level comment which has no parent comment. I've tried looking at the accounts where I see this, but I can't find any patterns for it yet, myself. Any...
What do you do with your pi? I bought one awhile ago to act as a streaming box for my non-smart TV, but for some reason I can't get the Widevine for DRM to work anymore so I'm not doing anything with it now.
Instant pot/air fryer combo - I like that I can make one-pot meals in it as I really don't like cooking, and anything I make in there cooks fast. Pasta, rice, meats, there's so many recipes.
Bissell Green Machine - it can wash furniture/carpet. Great for spills, if you have pets. Wash the upholstery in your vehicle. Small and compact. I use it a lot.
Large Honeywell air purifier - my husband smokes a fair amount of pot. I really don't enjoy my space smelling like it all the time. This thing sucks up the smoke and I don't have to deal with it. I buy the replacement air filters on Amazon.
Steam Deck - I love this thing. I love gaming but I'm tired of sitting at my desktop. It's like a small handheld computer too, so you can do other things on it besides run Steam. Right now I'm using it to stream CraveTV to my TV since my Raspberry Pi streaming box isn't working.
This when I'm happy to stick to my subscriptions and avoid seeing everything.. Reddit has made me so sick of memes and shit posts. Not gunna lie, I'm a bit bummed out it's making waves here as well, but again luckily I can stick to my subs..
Same with Boost, still working and wasn't supposed to after July 1st. There was to be no subscription for that app either, so it should have died for sure. So strange.
It’s almost as if reddit’s first party app couldn’t even compete with third party apps. I used Boost for Reddit and now I’m waiting for Boost for Lemmy...
The reduced amount of comments here actually motivate me to comment more. On Reddit I wouldn't even bother commenting on a lot of posts as they would have comments in the hundreds sometimes and I couldn't see the point to bother just having my comment never seen in a sea like that.
I keep hearing this, but I personally have yet to see it. Definitely most of my games run just as well on linux, but otherwise some of them are still glitchy.
Don’t get me wrong, I'll never go back to Windows, I love Linux, but what are these games that run better on Linux?
I can't see a large corporation wanting anything to do with the fediverse, they want their own playing field they can fully control to their liking.
Edit: just saw that their app is ActivityPub based. Sooo I guess they are joining the fediverse? Really not happy about this, the last thing we need here is some soulless corporation infecting our growing community.
Hmm I see what you mean, yeah the only use for that email would be to get a lost password associated with that username then, it wouldn't actually get activated.
Some users wonder if the dev will be charged for having it still up, others argue Reddit can't charge him without having signed a contract. Everyone is confused as to why the API change hasn't made it inoperable....
I feel we still need the reputation system, based on the fact that upvotes/downvotes get abused. Everyone always wants to give their 2 cents with how they feel about a comment if it invokes something in them, and upvotes/downvotes give them that power. As long as reputation doesn't effect comment/post exposure then we should be fine.
If only the boost option exists and reputation is scrapped, I believe boost will be abused in the same manor as upvotes and downvotes do on Reddit.
Providing people with an outlet still to say "I agree with this person" or "this comment is stupid or I just don't like it" I think will help mitigate the abuse of the post exposure system.
I do agree with others thoughts that reputation on a post/comment should be invisible though.
Linux magazine reports that "Former Snap co-developer Alan Pope, who left Canonical in 2021 after 10 years with the company, has developed unsnap, a script that replaces snaps with Flatpaks where available. Interesting, though I'm unsure why you'd bother with this. The script just searches for equivalent flatpaks and converts them. If there's no flatpak in existence for an app, it doesn't do anything to it. Just download the equivalent flatpak to begin with? Am I missing something?
My understanding is that only kbin can interact with both Lemmy and Mastodon while also showing its own threads/magazines/whatever. Lemmy can only see Lemmy and Mastadon can only see Mastodon.
I'm on kbin and also have access to read and comment on Lemmy posts, though I'm not sure how to access Mastadon as I don't see them show up when I search for other communities..
Edit: looks like I have to search Microblogs when I want to see Mastadon. Seems kind of confusing though, I don't think I understand how Mastodon works.
Reddit's updated rate limits going into effect over the coming weeks, not entirely on July 1st, as was expected (www.reddit.com)
This is why apps like Boost, who never signed up for a subscription model are still functioning....
What niche communities are you all looking to find/found here on lemmy?
I would love to find someplace to talk about roadtripping, comparing routes and whatnot.
What is happening with Infinity for Reddit currently?
I recently opened the app to ensure that it infact does not work anymore, but it just showed me the newest feed, like it did before. What is going on here? Are people funding this? Or have they switched to a third party API for read only?
What does the red dotted line next to some top-level comments mean?
