The end of the game blew my mind out of the water in a way no other twist has ever quite captured. It might have been the mental space I was in at the time too. Whatever the case, I will always remember the first time I played it.

I also wish I had played the first Golden Sun before the second, so if I could put a duology and that caveat in there? Definitely those two.

Goodness, this post took a while to show up for me!

Personally, I prefer OCs around to support the canon characters I'm interested in. Unless I'm reading Pokémon stories, because I like all OC casts in those. Nothing against OC/OC pairings, but it wouldn't draw me to the story. If there was a really interesting premise for the setting of the fandom though? That might drag me in to read about an OC. The romance would have to be secondary.

I don't know about other people. There are loads of people out there who love reading and writing OC-centric stories, but I don't know how much that changes if the OC isn't paired with a canon character.

Still trying to get more people to interact here, to be fair, but the occasional glitch which doesn't give out notifications for posts sure doesn't help. XD

I say go for it! There have been stories I've written where I do have two minor characters (OCs) I've come to love writing. I would definitely write OC/OC for those in a heartbeat. Even if it was just for myself. You have nothing to lose by posting it anyway! You never know who might find the premise interesting enough to give a chance and who might fall in love with your completely OC filled story.

Same! I don't believe in astrology, but it doesn't stop me from finding it a fascinating set piece for creation. Things like that are actually very helpful when creating original cultures and settings as well. Doesn't stop it from having it's place in fanfic! Especially when you are making sure your background OCs are somewhat fleshed out so the world feels real. They believe and know a lot of things I don't, so time for more research on the subjects!

I've been there! I get into so much which is for a line or two. Then there are things I struggle to find, but would be really important. Like children with negligent parents being hospitalized for some time in Japan in the 90s. Couldn't get anything on that.

Solidarity on the scheduling. I go from having a great buffer to having to do week by week at the last moment, then suddenly have the spoons to build a buffer again. Buffers are fantastic.

For some people, with less care for inaccuracies! Plus less people around to call you out on being wrong.

I was replying to a comment elsewhere and said I was "saving a fic for a special occasion." Does anyone else feel this way or do this???

Sometimes a fic Feels Different and I have to consume it in a way that's somehow elevated from the usual short snatches of reading I'm forced to take because of real life obligations.

Often this means that I'll have a really good fic saved in my MFL for months (if not longer) because I'm waiting for The Right Time 😂

a_mac_and_con,
a_mac_and_con avatar

@inloveweverything I understand the impulse! However, I've never done it myself. I have a lot of issues starting things, so it is less me saving it for a special occasion and more me saving a fic for the moment when I can wrangle my brain.

This is a difficult question. I have a list of fandoms I enjoy and while I might not actively be creating for one, I'm always glancing around them. I've never left them, even if I don't participate in a public place with my enjoyment of whatever media. It's been a bit since I've read any Persona fanfic, but I would never say I've left it, because a lot of the themes, characters, or stories never leave my mind.

Friday Roundup! What Are You Doing This Weekend? (9/22)

After nearly two weeks of no internet at home, I shall have the comfort of mind to catch up on all the writing I've meant to do. There was too much research and fact checking I couldn't do without the internet. When I was away from home, I was not comfortable enough to do the writing. But this weekend! This weekend....

I ended up crashing too, which is why I never ended up responding to this. :(

I've been warned by people who are FE fans not to become a FE fan. Considering how much I know there is going on with it all, I know I would be devoured by it all if I did start. XD

Woo! A productive weekend that means I have multiple chapters lined up to post while I'm traveling over the coming weeks. 🥳 For once, not being able to write in the regular order may have worked out for me as I just had to sort out one link in the chain in order to expand my buffer.
It has also made me realise that I probably only have half a dozen chapters left to write for this story before I'm done. So double-woo!, I guess! Or not, if my inspiration abandons me after that.

Agreed. It's fine to have something like "nature is innocent", but not in something based on realism. Most of your points boil down to what is actually realistic and what isn't. Figuring out your setting is important in original stories and fanworks.

You have reminded me that I hate Simple Misunderstandings... at least, when the misunderstanding would be easy to talk about and clear up. It's fine if there are reasons. As long as those reasons don't appear to be there just to keep the misunderstanding around. If they are, I'm uninterested.

Yeah, I have stories I want to get back to. But they have taken too long to update and I would have to start from the top. Which means, in the end, I will likely end up waiting until it is completed and see if I'm still interested in the story then.

a_mac_and_con avatar

I don't have/want children myself, but I have no problems with them in a story. I can even enjoy them a lot. I certainly don't like it when it is portrayed as a necessity for romance. I do like reading about people discussing if they want kids at all, whether or not they decide to have them. Much as I like reading about most relationship discussions where the characters are opening up to each other about what they want in the future.

a_mac_and_con,
a_mac_and_con avatar

Valid! Sometimes I stop reading/watching something. There might be a reason for it, one I haven't dived into, but I'm also okay with the surface thoughts that I'm just not enjoying it. It is for fun. We don't always have to dissect why we aren't enjoying something.

I used to be the type who always had to finish what I started. When I broke that habit I was much happier!

Time off? But my schedule! It's one of the few things I have! :P

Huzzah for other things completed! How long do you usually have to let something rest before you're sure to have fresh eyes? I'm supposed to do the same with writing, but I find I never have a definitive minimum amount of time I need to be away from it. Sometimes I can start reading through the moment I'm finished and I catch everything, other times I do have to wait.

Breaks can be scheduled. I just haven't scheduled one for now yet.

I thought about Tumblr once too, but the instant I made an account I couldn't see half the accounts I'd been eyeing when not logged in. As I wanted it mainly to like fanart and the like, the fact I couldn't leave likes/reblogs/comments made me give up on it immediately.

No one else I know with Tumblr has a problem with it though. Despite people also calling it a hellsite, it seems most people are using the term with affection. (Or maybe for lack of a better site?) I don't know. If you decide to sign up, I'd be interested in hearing how you find it.
