Does AI-generated art posted on lemmy bother you?

I find that i can spot AI Images fairly easily these days, especially the sort of fantastical tableaus that get posted to the various AI communities around lemmy. I’m tired of seeing them; it all looks the same to me. Was wondering if im being too sensitive, or if other people are similarly bored of the constant unimaginative...

AI-generated art posted anywhere can bother me. It depends.

If the art comes with a post crediting the art and artists used to create the piece? I don't mind them, even if the art isn't to my taste. But more than often it's not. And I do consider it stealing if the AI-generated art wasn't pulling only from the person who was using the AI's own art.

As most take from anywhere on the internet and attributes it to no one, I shall continue to block.

Prompt 1/12/24
What kind of games do they play in your setting? Do they have chess? Poker? Holochess? Their own card games, their own roleplaying games even? How do they pass the time in camp before sleep, or in the evenings after work? Everyone has leisure activities...what do people in your setting do?

@peterdrake You are now one of my favourite people on the Fediverse.

I have. When it comes to Pokémon stories, I have never bothered to read much about canon characters. I've always been more curious about OCs. Probably because my canon is the games and, for the most part, the characters in the games are so one note that even if you are using them as the characters, they still come off as OCs with how they are fleshed out.

And I love it. So when I finally got around to writing a Pokémon story based on a nuzlocke run, it was filled with OCs.

It's a fandom thing though. There are plenty of people in Pokémon who are interested in OCs too or only interested in OCs, as I am. I don't notice a similar interest for me in other fandoms. With them, I'm much more interested in the canon characters. An added OC can steal my heart, but they usually have to start as a secondary or tertiary character. I find I'm less likely to be interested when the OC is the main character for most fandoms.

So if you are interested in Pokémon, look up nuzlocke-based fanfiction. There are some gems of OCs in those!

There is something strange to me about using the term teenager when referring to someone in ancient Egypt. There is nothing wrong with it, but seeing it in an article opposed to in casual conversation? New to me.

Ha! I was actually going to post something similar. You beat me too it!

I'm still in the same fandoms, but I am adding a couple I've been into (one newer as it came out last year, the other older) as gifts for an exchange I'm a part of. Looking forward to that! (Because they are gifts, I will be quiet about which they are until I've posted them. I don't think my recipient knows me here, but secrecy is important in these events!)

I have my huge project I'm still soldiering on with. I also wanted to write my sequel to the nuzlocke story I finished last year (I miss writing Pokémon!). To start with however, I will just do the exchange fics, the mini bang, and prepare for Femslash February. I'm separating the prompts into the four weeks and doing four different Bandori pairs. The prompts are already out, so I hopefully can finish most of them before the end of the month.

Some people in the comments are missing the point. You didn't want something. You told your parents you and your partner didn't want it. You were given and pressured into it regardless.

Do not feel awful for not appreciating it. It doesn't matter why you don't. Your parents have ignored you completely. Not just you on the cruise, but your wishes in the first place. It doesn't matter how nice Cozumel is. If you are stressed out from the cruise experience to start with, you won't be in the mind space to enjoy something else you might have if you were visiting it normally.

OP, this is not your fault. You have every right to feel angry. You were left out in many ways and guilted into feeling bad about yourself for not enjoying something you upfront said you didn't want.

I hope this gives you the ability to stand your ground in the future. Sure, it can be nice to experience new things and find out you like something you never thought you would. But that's up to you to decide. Whether its about a cruise or something else, only you and your partner should make that decision for yourselves. I hope you call your parents out on this, but if you don't, I hope you can always say "no" without buckling in the future.

Sounds like you have a lot in common with my father's reading tastes. In which case, I will recommend the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde.

I had not heard this one before, though I have looked into atonal music one time in the past. This is certainly the most unsettling piece I have ever heard and it is amazing. Thank you for sharing the link.

The holidays have sure been busy! I finished a giftfic for someone who failed to get into a fandom Secret Santa and was disappointed they wouldn't have had time to anyway. Writing something for another has always made me happy... though with as few things which scratch my itch out there I can't do it all the time. I'm the only one writing some things I want to read.

Despite that, I did enter a rarepair exchange. Looking at the requests, I'm not sure I will get paired up with anyone. My choices might be a little too rare for this exchange. XD

I am also taking part in a different rarepair event, but this time it's a minibang. I'm looking forward to whichever artist it is who picks my concept as the one they want to draw.

Other than that, I've been writing the same story I've been writing for a year and a half. Getting closer to Duelist Kingdom. I'm not sure I'll be working on it too much this weekend though. Still thinking about it!

a_mac_and_con avatar

Yeah, I'm not always getting an alert from here either. And I'm running the place! I had to check the magazine myself, because nothing told me this had been posted and I was going to post a roundup thread. I still don't get how this all works. I should look into it more, but it sure it taking a lot of spoons. (°ー°〃)

a_mac_and_con,
a_mac_and_con avatar

I should keep poking you about this fic! With as much as it is on your mind, it will be such an accomplishment when you've finished. I hereby decree you should at least look at it sometime this week and figure out a plan for getting it done!

That is, if you want me to poke you about it. If not, that's totally fine.

a_mac_and_con,
a_mac_and_con avatar

It's my first bang! I'd be more intimidated in a reverse bang, but considering I get to go first it isn't so bad. I can only hope someone will want to draw for it! If not, well... at least I'll still have written a story.

More impressive is that I haven't missed a single update in all that time! At least one chapter a week. I'm pretty pleased with myself about it too. :)

Most rewrites of the source material are either about the anime (not the manga) Even if they are, they often include most focus on OCs (which is fine, but I'm not as interested with those as main characters in rewrites) or the intent for the fic is primarily for shipping. Mine was how I wanted to show how the characters were actually friends. That they are as supportive to each other as everyone says they are. Not just a couple members of the group. It's a very fulfilling project for me because of that.

a_mac_and_con,
a_mac_and_con avatar

Sounds good! I will be checking in with you next weekend to make sure you have started focusing on the fic. Be prepared, as next weekend I'll probably be after you to get a certain amount of words done! (Though I'll need to know about how long you think it's going to be.)

a_mac_and_con,
a_mac_and_con avatar

I have no idea. I never know how long anything is going to be. I'm used to asking people about it because somehow I'm around a lot of people who estimate their stories all the time. However, I have gone into projects knowing it has to be a minimum of X words. In which case, I can at least plan out my time for those.

If you want something around 2k more (or think that should be good enough to get it done, I can give you an assignment of 1k words a week. It would get you done with enough time to do whatever editing you want before sending it!

So by New Years Eve, I expect to hear that you are about 1.8k words in!

a_mac_and_con,
a_mac_and_con avatar

Thank you!

I've written it so people who don't know the source material can hopefully follow along. And every chapter has me comparing and contrasting things with the source material. XD People appear to enjoy my ranting about the manga, but I've put it all in spoiler notes in the end notes section so people can skip it if they are uninterested too.

a_mac_and_con,
a_mac_and_con avatar

Indeed it is! I love the manga. I have a soft spot for parts of the anime as well, as that is how I was introduced to it. I even watched the Toei anime a few years back which was... sure something. XD But both anime are of a different sort from the manga. I occasionally acknowledge things from the anime, but my fic is my twist on the manga. I did not agree with certain changes or additions the anime made to "explain things".

I've only watched the GX series after myself. I love GX. It is something special. Even if I can't believe in a world where Kaiba would make a school for card games. (I think it is separated by the different series, and then each series has X number of seasons.) But Judai is his own protagonist and despite the storytelling pitfalls, there is lots of fun to be had!

Even if I might have fastforwarded through the duels. The duels don't interest me most of the time. Weird how I'm into YGO when I'm not as into the card game.

Oof. Sorry to hear it. Sounds rough. Don't worry about it then. You have more important matters to handle. I'm hoping things will get better for you.

When you are on your own schedule, yes. Otherwise you have to deal with the schedules of businesses and people who aren’t available at night. My doctor won’t see me at midnight, after all.

I don't often see or hear about the people working on canon addressing such things. I'm glad there are people doing it officially! It is another thing I love: when people think something is a plot hole, but the creator addresses it later. And it's obviously not a hurried attempt to paper it over, because you can see all the evidence that they had this planned the entire time.

However, most of the time fans address it instead. I love the creativity it brings.
