Using https://hotaudiofiction.social/u/@effinbirds@mastodon.social (when logged into said instance) throws a 404 for me.

HOWEVER... using https://kbin.social/u/@effinbirds@mastodon.social when I'm logged into that instance does not.

Which is good news. I mean, bad news that we have a misconfig or something not setup correctly (yet), but good that it works! Off to figure out why not. And, hopefully, figure out what sort of timeline we have here on /kbin!

WOW! The BBC now has an instance!

Best I can figure: there is no centralized "audio fiction" department at the BBC. The shows I've seen from the BBC are tied to either BBC 5 live or BBC Radio 4.

Which sounds kinda strange, but is what it is. Unless my info is all wrong. But it's from a couple of Brits who used to work for the BBC, so I'm calling their info credible.

My take: It doesn't matter that most currently private subs will go back to being public, and that posting on those subs will return mostly to normal.

What does matter is that several thousand of us were inspired to look at something different and are intrigued enough to keep plugging along, helping to further the case of decentralization and demonstrate, in a small way, what a better future can look like.

I'm likely going to return to Reddit, but I'll do it with an eye on making something better for the subs I'm active in.

My experimentation with continues. I'm reminded this is an early release of the software, so I'm not expecting perfection. Nor am I expecting my experiments to all make sense. But I shall try.

The one I'm focusing most of my current attention on is https://kbin.social/m/audiofiction, which does what it says on the tin. Ostensibly, it's for fans of , in which I include , , content, and more. But I suspect a lot of creators will be there too. Which is fine by me. The more, the merrier! So long as we're on topic. (I can see the need for many different topics too!)

I was a very active user on r/audiodrama, which had about 260K members before I logged off on Sunday night. It'll be interesting to see how many return tomorrow. I expect most.

I started https://kbin.social/m/audiofiction less as a replacement and more of a "let's experiment with this" service. I didn't make a lot of noise about it, but I'm encouraged by the small amount of activity. It's given me the boost of confidence to perhaps spin up a new kbin instance, with lots of magazines for the myriad topics that are a part of the larger "audio fiction" world. That's the theory, anyhow!

In a few hours, I'm signing out of my Reddit account and won't sign back in until Wednesday morning. I'm mostly active in the r/audiodrama sub, and I'll definitely miss it.

To that end, I created /m/audiofiction (or do I need to put in a full URL, like https://kbin.social/m/audiofiction?) to give me something to do while I'm not on Reddit because of Rexit. With luck, others from there will join me. And if not, I'll still learn a lot.

The ultimate goal is, I think, to spin up a kbin instance for all flavors of , like , Podcast, and content, with lots of magazines for topics, shows, creators, and more!

At least, that's the theory. Baby steps to start!

Greetings, all! I'm Evo, long-time dabbler in the Fediverse and heavy consumer of , particularly in form.

I created an account here to kick the tires of kbin, with the goal of running an instance (gulp!) that's dedicated to , , and content. I'm part of an active +250K member subreddit and am making contingency plans as Rexxit is underway.
