Dehumanisation. I feel as though people are increasingly becoming ok with other people being punished for their involvement in something that is genuinely wrong/evil/bad. But the people experiencing the steepest punishments are almost never the people with significant culpability for the wrong/evil/bad decisions.
"Just following orders" might not be a great excuse, but punishing pawns for a king's choices isn't an effective deterrent or remedy either.

A bunch of the complaints sound like the same complaints I've heard from many companies. But it also sounds like a shit place to work, with some arrogantly poor leadership decisions.

Additional to moving and/or securing the food source, there are a bunch of very pleasant odours cats hate that are harmless and plant-based. Lavender, citrus, mints, etc. Too strong for cat noses.
Any uniqueness to your climate or location? I see a lot of green in one of your photo backgrounds, could this be built up pollen and dust bound by minerals from the rain? Maybe combined with the residue from other cleaning attempts.
I would try a bristled scrubbing brush with dish soap first. If that didn't work, I'd try the brush with a weak vinegar to see if it's a pH issue.
Another thought: this might be plastic coating on the mesh degrading after extended UV exposure. In which case you probably have to replace it, but might as well try some home chemistry first?
I'm too much of a fan of timed power cut-off devices to go that route, and my doctors would probably also not be a fan. I can totally believe it makes for excellent and delicious toast though. Especially with the good butter.
I have inherited a US$4 / 3.6€ toaster from a previous housemate. I told myself I'll replace it when it dies, but it's been nearly 12 years. That Sunbeam is much prettier than my plastic sweatshop junk and I'm a little jealous of it.
I think I'm so used to planned obsolescence in tech that I greatly underestimated how hard it is to fuck up building a toaster. Mine doesn't toast evenly, sure. But how perfectly even do I really need my toast to be?
It's so culturally ingrained in the US. I used to look at the delivery driver subreddits sometimes. So many complaints from the US posters about individual customers not tipping, but almost no complaints about companies not paying people properly. Compare with other countries subreddits where those services operate, and the criticism is almost entirely of the company policies.
Red Scare propaganda was and continues to be hugely effective in the US.
I just did some napkin maths for my previous place. The rent has increased 28-33% over a decade (I think 33%, but I'm not 100% sure i remember the correct rent from when i moved in). Inner west Sydney, location with good public transport access. Knowing that they have the same dodgy cunt property manager and real estate, I can just about guarantee almost no work has been done to justify a rent increase at all.

I wish the worst thing about politics for me was how noisy it is. I suspect that the people who are bothered by the noise of politics are usually people who have usually never had legislation or policies introduced which can directly or indirectly get them killed.
Politics is usually at the forefront of my mind, as with many others who feel lives are at stake. As such, I think the only way to truly stop politics from being a common topic is to put fewer people in danger to begin with. I don't see that happening anytime soon.
There's also the problem of bots and paid commentary though, which is a popular way to influence social groups. But that's just the same problem as humanity has always had and are always going to have - verifying who is real and who isn't. This is a problem which will also get harder to detect and measure with further developments in machine learning. Realistically we would need some ability to authenticate a user's actual singular identity, which requires collecting and storing more personal user data. Even then, to do this with maybe sufficient accuracy would prevent many people from being able to participate. It's a huge can of worms.
So I'm afraid you will have to stick with the current hacky workaround of blocking or ignoring people and communities who discuss things which don't interest you. Much like how I have scrolled past many pictures of beans today. And you can join communities which share your definitions of politics and distaste for its pervasiveness.

Latin has plenty of neuter gender nouns, Reddit would probably be a third declension noun as a foreign proper name. Given 'reddit' is already a third person indicative present active verb though, and verbs match the subject's gender in the instance it is a participle, essentially making Reddit non-binary and gender-fluid, this might still be confusing for some.
