fuzzzerd, to technology in Windows 11 is getting multiple monitor refresh rate improvements

Didn't even know this was a thing, and since I live by multiple monitors, this makes me glad I've held off.

fuzzzerd, to technology in Tor’s shadowy reputation will only end if we all use it | Engadget

While I agree with the article and the general idea, fact is many sites actively block tor connections and that makes it difficult to recommend as a stand in replacement for regular users. I'm not sure what the solution is, because as stated in the article, the more people using tor for general use, the better security it pffers those that truly need its privacy.

fuzzzerd, to cassettefuturism in Zenith Space Command --- fully mechanical and wireless

And that's where the term "clicker" came from, as opposed to the more modern "remote".

fuzzzerd, to brainworms in Mastercard moves to ban cannabis purchases on its debit cards

Bold move to assume they'll take cash. Many places gave up on cash during the pandemic and many of those haven't gone back to taking cash.

I used to hate the "convince" fee companies charged for using a credit card, but when it's reframed as a cash discount, it's not as aggravating.

That said, plenty of places are electronic payment only these days. Scary times, given the payment processor monopoly and their ability to determine what you can and can't buy.

fuzzzerd, to asklemmy in Is there an IT professional Lemmy instance?

I believe programming.dev is the main instance for all programming related communities that left reddit.

fuzzzerd, to firefox in Mozilla officially opposes Web Enviroment Integrity API (DRM for web pages proposal from Google)

Which is why all browsers cross identify as other browsers. This would make it easier for sites to block and harder for browsers to work around.

After Google approval, what is the size of the tester pool?

Had the same thought. Glad it's not just me.

fuzzzerd, to memes in With seemingly at least one new app announced per day....

You can install the kbin interface as a PWA on mobile, and it works pretty well. There are some kinks for sure, but it's 100% usable and better than lemmy.

fuzzzerd, to google in Google is working on essentially putting DRM on the web

Maybe they care, maybe they don't, but they definitely value convince over privacy.

fuzzzerd, to politics in US plans water heater standards, says will save consumers $11 bln yearly

Claiming there's savings just isn't true in reality. If they came out and said it's to help reduce energy consumption to save the planet I'd be all in, and I'm still in for this, but it just makes it hard to fully support with the gaslighting as you aptly put.

fuzzzerd, to asklemmy in Why are folks so anti-capitalist?

Coming in hot with the real answer as to why it feels that way on the fediverse relative to the rest of the internet.

fuzzzerd, to nostupidquestions in Is there something like launchers for windows?

Power Toys Run (from the paper toys suite) is a fantastic launcher that's better than the start menu.

fuzzzerd, to lemmyworld in Rules of Use for Bots

Seems like each community would have to opt-in to having those bots correct links in their threads.

fuzzzerd, to foss in Alternative to Google Photos

Sshfs to Nas? Does that mean you have a persistent ssh session open from your host and are using it as a file system to a self hosted Nas at your home? Or did I misunderstand that?
