Undiscovered Country is a timely piece about the end of the Cold War and what happens to soldiers when they're told to stop fighting.

It also contains Shakespeare in the original Klingon.

It’s hard to explain to people how important Star Trek has been to me throughout my life.

Thank you Lucy.

Hyperreality,

For those who don't know "the undiscovered country' refers to the famous 'to be, or not to be' speech in Hamlet. Travelling to the undiscovered country is dying. No surprise the Klingons love Shakespeare and claim him as their own.

Trek's full of Shakespeare references. IRC Shatner was Plummer/Chang's understudy for a Shakespeare play. Stewart is obviously a Shakespearian/RSC actor too, the character famously loves a bit of Shakespeare. Brooks/Sisko was a Shakespearean actor, so was Zimmerman. I think they've started including more references in Strange New Worlds.

Also explains the acting you sometimes see in Trek. Most of the big names all started out doing Shakespeare in theaters.

Star Trek executive producer wants more Strange New Worlds episodes, and I’m nervous (screenrant.com)

Strange New Worlds has been my favorite Trek since Next Generation, and if the quality continues, could easily be my favorite Trek ever. But with the e.p. wishing for more episodes per season, there’s a danger of diluting the show by adding weak episodes that would have never made it in a 10 episode season....

Woozy, (edited )

Longer seasons would allow them to throw in a few SciFi oriented episodes that don’t necessarily advance character arcs. Where would SNW be if TOS didn’t have the “Arena” (Gorn) episode that was based on a completely unrelated SciFi short story?

Mirror, Mirror was a SciFi episode that not only gave us the foundation for Discovery, but cemented the evil-twin-goatee trope into pupular culture.

Space Seed (Botany Bay/Khan) was also a one-off SciFi episode. Where would the entire franchise be without it?

I really hope SNW makes room for exploring the sort of SciFi ideas that Star Trek was originally based on.

silentdon,

Owning an NFT is analogous to owning a receipt. You don’t actually own the image and paying for one means you fell for a scam. Pointing that out is enough to piss off any NFT owners.

art101,

Also using Jellyfin and it’s great.

Regarding the number of different clients, yes they have less than Plex but remember Jellyfin is a free product and is a considerably younger project so more clients will come in time.

I run a Jellyfin add-on with my Kodi setup and it runs great and streams to three of my mother’s LG TVs, one uses a web client as the official client hadn’t been signed off by LG, another uses the official client (LG run multiple versions of their WebOS) and the third runs the official client on fire stick from the Amazon app store.

Freefuckstomorrow,

Emby is an option as well. Iirc jellyfin is forked from it, but like plex it has client apps for almost every device.

It’s been a solid server for me for the last 3 years

Holyginz,

Not to mention, the super wealthy and corporations being reigned in will still do far more than a random joe eating less steak. Just my two cents.

Unaware7013,

Damn, that's sad to hear. Mitnick was a really nice voice to have in the hacking/social engineering space and I loved reading his books.

That is just it Roe vs Wade was about privacy, that the government has no right to know what you do. By elemiminating roe vs Wade the Supreme Court has said that it is ok for the government to know what it’s citizens are doing with out probable cause.

Buzz Aldrin on the 54th Anniversary of the launch of Apollo 11 (i.redd.it)

Apollo 11 was the American spaceflight that first landed humans on the Moon. Commander Neil Armstrong and lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin landed the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle on July 20, 1969, at 20:17 UTC, and Armstrong became the first person to step onto the Moon's surface six hours and 39 minutes later, on July 21 at 02:56...

I think that may be the breakfast he had on launch day. I read the book that Michael Collins wrote (highly recommended) and what’s on that plate matches my memory.

ikilledlaurapalmer,

That breakfast is pretty killer though. I see that and I want to grow up to be an astronaut too.

It’s trans adults, too: GOP candidates now back trans medical restrictions for all ages (www.miamiherald.com)

Donald Trump had recently finished a familiar riff about banning gender transition surgery for children when the former president, speaking to an audience of Evangelical voters, moved on to something new: a policy that would affect transgender adults. “I will ban all taxpayer funding for sex or gender transitions at any...

Republicans try to stop military’s electrification with mind-bogglingly dumb proposals (electrek.co)

Several Republican representatives have proposed amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act to try to stop the Pentagon’s electrification. The proposals sound so mind-bogglingly dumb that they look like they were written by 19th-century Luddites or the fossil fuel industry itself....
