kayjay,

Marx’s view of communism doesn’t inherently ban religion. His view of religion was that it was a tool by the ruling classes to maintain the status quo against the oppressed, and that under communism religion wouldn’t hold any political power because, by his words, the conditions that allowed religion to hold political power such as inequality wouldn’t be present anymore. But he didn’t call for the abolition of religion or that religion couldn’t exist at all in a communist society, that was more of a Marxist-Leninist way of thinking.

kayjay,

In the US, extreme violence has always been a lot more accepted than nudity. Which really says a lot about what kind of values the society has when completely natural human biology is shunned and anti-social destructive behavior isn’t.

kayjay,

Had MacArthur had his way, Hiroshima would look like a safe haven compared to Pyongyang. He suggested using nukes "tactically" in North Korea to take out strategic infrastructure like bridges and tunnels. But that’s kind of like bringing a cannon to hunt sparrows. This was the US’ most celebrated general at the time on account of his success in the Pacific Theatre during WW2 and enormous success defending South Korea; what he said could really only be overruled by the President, which is ultimately what happened.
The top brass didn’t care about civilian casualties. That much is obvious when they suggest using full-blown nukes just to take out bridges.

kayjay,

…? I think there are plenty of lower bars than the US.. in fact I can’t think of a more apt country to compare to. If you count Europe as a region then that would be valid as well, I guess. The US is the only world economy on the same level as China.

kayjay,

The point of Congress is to be able to challenge the singular power of the head of state if they get too power-hungry… it doesn’t work if you can just disregard it whenever you feel it’s inconvinient. Do you want a (for now) democratically elected dictatorship where there is no challenge to the power of the president?

kayjay,

The concept of open borders for work and tourism works very well for the EU (imo) - I think this is a good thing.

kayjay,

Sources say it’s of Hindi origin, but when I actually checked the statistics, it says there’s only 130 people in India with the name, while there’s ~56 million in China. So it seems to be mostly a Chinese name. Although further googling seems to indicate that’s the Chinese name for "Mrs."… so it might be that these sources are reading the title field as the first name, lol.

kayjay,

India, I assume.

Israeli minister: 'We are fighting human animals' (www.middleeastmonitor.com)

Israel’s Defence Minister Yaov Gallant has ordered the complete closure of the Gaza Strip, including a ban on the entry of food, water, fuel or access to electricity as Israel intensifies its bombardment of the besieged Strip in the wake of the surprise attack by the Palestinian resistance. His comments have drawn criticism...

kayjay,

Wtf does the bloods and crips have to do with this lmao.. are you OK?

And how does not being pro-war make you biased towards the left? That’s the dumbest take I’ve ever seen. Is the right inherently pro-war according to you?

kayjay,

The part where people have been living in a place for hundreds of years only to have someone else come in and take it and then put them in the worlds largest prison?

kayjay,

Agreed. Which is why the IDF also needs to be eliminated.

Both sides are and have been commiting atroscious acts against civilians and neither side can be excused for their inhuman actions.

kayjay,

The international community has shown to be Pro-Israeli and thus anti-Palestinian. The Palestinian Plan for Partition was a plan to peacefully split up British Palestine into a separate Jewish and Arab state, as well as Jerusalem becoming a free city. The plan gave 62% of the land to the Jewish community despite the Arabic population having twice the population. Obviously the Arab population rejected this plan on the basis that it violated the right to natuonal self-determination, and thus this perpetual conflict was born.
Especially with the US being so obviously Pro-Israel and having virtually all power on the decision-making of the West, why would you think the Arab population would ever get fair treatment under an international "peacekeeping" mission?

… You do realize Apple Watches have had always-on screens for half a decade now? You don’t have to do anything to see the time.
And yeah, if all you use it for is to see the time, then it’s obviously not worth it. But can you listen to music through a mechanical watch? Can you use a mechanical watch to respond to text messages? Can a mechanical watch show you the map while you’re hiking?
Why even have a smartphone? You just need a landline phone. After all, it’s just pick up and dial, with a smartphone you have to unlock it to call.
Or maybe phones can be more than just phones these days? Just like watches can be more than just watches.

kayjay,

That’s shower temperatures, jeezus.

Haven’t paid for a streaming service since 2020. Piracy proves yet again to be the only real option.

DU rounds and cluster munitions are already in use in Ukraine, by the Russians. The damage is being done no matter what. So why is it suddenly a problem when it’s the Ukranians, who are desperate for any advantage to keep their country theirs? They’re certainly not happy with having to use methods that damage their land, but they’ve made the decision that it’s a risk they’re willing to take in order to not be annexed by a brutal foreign power.

kayjay,

His reasoning was if the US didn’t make it, the Nazis would, and that would be even worse. He never wanted to make the bomb, it was just the lesser of two evils.

kayjay,

That’s… not how that works.
The brand isn’t "x.com" either, it’s "X". They don’t even use x.com as a domain.
Even if it was x.com, a video game being called Xcom wouldn’t be close enough to the website x.com to be able to be confused. It would be different if they both were websites.

Report shows Ethiopian civil war more lethal than Ukraine war (www.thereporterethiopia.com)

The two-year war in northern Ethiopia resulted in approximately 100,200 deaths before an African Union-brokered ceasefire was reached in November 2021, a new report reveals. In comparison, the Ukraine-Russia war that began in February led to 81,500 deaths, the same source added.

kayjay,

The lethality isn’t why the war in Ukraine gets media coverage in the west; it’s because there’s a war in the neighborhood that’s unprecedented in decades. A war in Africa isn’t unexpected. It’s sad of course, but there’s pretty much been war in Africa since… well, since forever. While all-out war in Europe was seemingly over since the late 90s.

kayjay,

It also desperately needs mobile apps. Using the website on mobile leaves a lot to be desired. That is hopefully coming though
