You definitely do not want to generate TOTPs in your password manager. That makes it a single point of failure in the event of a breach.

knoland,

But there’s no algorithm that makes rep valuable here. Presumably on threads the more followers and engagement you have, the more your content will be pushed to peoples feeds.

Different carrots.

Updated: this issue is now resolved.

I suspect theres a bug as some thumbnails are still being cropped.

Example: https://kbin.social/m/random/t/142699/watership-down

Edit: it also appears to crop images in the threads themselves (as seen with the screenshot posted on this reply)

The image being sent from the server appears to be cropped. Checking the code sending the thumbnail, it looks to be correct [ref].

(Disclaimer: It's been over 10 years since I looked at PHP code, so I could be wrong about what this code is doing)

Judge rules White House pressured social networks to “suppress free speech” (arstechnica.com)

A federal judge yesterday ordered the Biden administration to halt a wide range of communications with social media companies, siding with Missouri and Louisiana in a lawsuit that alleges Biden and his administration violated the First Amendment by colluding with social networks "to suppress disfavored speakers, viewpoints, and...

knoland,

To say, as in to state as fact, yes.

To question, no.

There's a wide gap between "covid originated in a lab" and "covid could have originated in a lab".

knoland,

But NextDNS is closed source isn't it? Personally I wouldn't trust proprietary software with my entire DNS request history.

knoland,

Finally got the chance to try out this motorcycle bike rack I got last year. Worked like a charm, couldn't even tell it was there honestly. A bit more crosswind on bridges but nothing more than a pillion would give.

It admittedly looks ridiculous, but that's kinda half the fun. Definitely got some looks going down the road.

Need to find a way to store the motorcycle helmet at the destination though since it takes the place of a top box.

knoland,
knoland,

Right now just used a wired earbud/mid under the helmet.

Looking at the AnyTone AT-D878UVII PLUS which has bluetooth, so may work to connect to the Cardo. If I wind up grabbing it I'll give an update.

I use the radio mostly for motoreffing bike races, so the low speeds mean fiddling with the HT isn't too bad and you can still hear the radio.

How dangerous is it really? (lemmy.world)

You hear a lot about close calls and danger when looking at motorcycles from the outside. I’m looking at motorcycles now for the first time, and my wife is concerned. As I just want a chill cruiser, I thought maybe some perspective from actual riders might help with the perceived danger. What do you guys think? Do you have any...

knoland, (edited )

I think in a lot of ways, the answer to the question requires honest self reflection. It's exceptionally easy to tell ourselves we'll be responsible rider, always wear the gear, ride defensively. It's another thing to actually do those things while on the bike.

Motorcycles will always be more dangerous than driving, but it's reasonably on par with other risky hobbies with the right mindset and self control.

knoland,

Amazing. I did this ride two years ago. Moab was definitely the highlight of the trip.

Also shout out to the Keriga bags.

knoland, (edited )

I’ve done a few BDRs with the Kreiga bags (32L + 22L + 12L) with absolutely no issues. I’ve low sided through a deep puddle, dragged it through a rocky stream after running aground and dropping the bike, and rode through a typhoon at highway speeds.

Absolutely no issues with durability or water proofing.

I put all my clothes in the 32L, my laptop in a pelican case and other misc (mini-pump, plugs, first aid) in the 22L, and all my camping gear in the 12L. I strap the tent to the top of the 32L with some rokstraps.

knoland,

Hills are fun. Through nothing more than your own manual effort you’re able to swiftly scale mountains and are rewarded with stunning vistas (and a fun decent).

knoland,

Also don’t forget that Google has no one to contact should something go wrong. You’re just blocked by the shadowy internet cabal with no recourse.

knoland,

I don’t like having the URL bar perpetually taking up real estate like it does on iOS

If you save it to the homepage this doesn't happen. Guide

An important point to make is that even if you make an account elsewhere, you can still access the content and communities here and on other Kbin/Lemmy instances.

knoland,

those early days thirty years ago.

I misread this ad thirteen and though, “haha silly it was 20 years ago.” Then re-read it and realized it said thirty.

Then I had to go sit down for a minute and contemplate my impending demise.

knoland, (edited )

I have to agree, you can tell the platform is not up to speed at all.

It's OSS, you can contribute to improve it. Otherwise just sit tight and wait.

There's not a multi-million dollar VC investment back these projects, they owe you nothing. You (as in the wider community) contribute to improve it or you wait for the one guy to decide your feature request is worth tackling.

knoland,

cody, to kbinDesign

On the occasion of buying a license for Figma and putting Adobe Xd aside, I thought about creating a kbin system design ((unofficial, for testing figma and plugins).

But the post is not about that. I've been living for a while now and I still don't understand why designers stick to a full color palette. From 100 to 900 for each variant. Practice shows that no development team is able to implement it the way the ui designer dreamed. And this is regardless of the size of the company and the money spent on it. Not to mention pallet modifications.

I can't decide whether it's the designers' lack of knowledge that in ordinary SASS you can generate a practically full palette from one base color, or maybe the attitude that everything must be in line with their vision to the letter.

After all, the average user will not even notice the difference. Anyway, monitors have different settings, brightness, contrast, technology and screen quality and the effect will still differ from the designer's vision.

knoland,

@cody Checkout Chakra UI we use it at work, and it's been far and away the best way to implement designs to spec from figma. Their variant and theme system is next level. We can access all those variants with just like "red.900" instead of having to use convoluted SASS functions.

knoland,

I’d rather a ticket than get murdered by a driver. Lane splitting is far safer for two wheel vehicles.
