This is a magazine I created since insects are a passion of mine as is photography. I really liked the corresponding communities on reddit so I thought it would be nice to have something like this for /kbin as well. Feel free to post nice images of insects, your own or ones you found online. Please try to avoid reposts though if...
Like for example, how someone thinks because you work in IT you can fix their TV, or how if you're into music you must be able to play any random instrument....
What's currently the distinction between these? I created a magazine and wanted to add a welcome sticky (Reddit style) but that ended up on the microblog. But you can't sticky those for some reason. But I also can't find how to create a thread with just text from the drop down menu. Can someone explain the differences and why they are there?
Thx.

I will also be allowing other arthropods, if it gets out of hand (I don't expect much traffic though, lol) I might restrict it.
Other than that, follow the rules of course, have fun and feel free to ask if something is unclear.
The weirdest part is that I kind of remember all the bees and birds going silent during the solar eclipse, but I don't recall them like dropping out of the sky like this
It's the best thing to do usually. Diurnal flying animals rely heavily on daylight adapted vision to navigate and if that is gone the risk of crashing into stuff increases dramatically, which is pretty bad if you have delicate wings. Or even worse encountering predators like spiders or bats. So the best thing may be to drop to the ground quickly and thereby regain control of your movement.
Ah, that makes sense as well. I didn't expect that they would respond to sudden darkness the same way. I guess I should read up more about hymenopteran behaviour.
An interesting little mantid-fly I spotted on a walk.
A mantid fly isn't a mantis, but it is an example of convergent evolution. They are lacewings that developed raptor claws like a mantis and some have even adopted the bodyshape and coloration of a wasp (wasp-mimic). Wild little insect.
@Quip really nice image, I'd love to find and photograph one myself one day, however they are very rare and not very diverse in my area. Hope you don't mind I reposted this with a link to your post, couldn’t figure out how to crosspost and still get a thumbnail on kbin unfortunately.

Seems like the federation was turned on not long ago. It's very exciting to be part of kbin's growth!
