I'm sure plenty of nice folks use "y'all" but unfortunately, from the perspective of a Brit on the other side of the ocean, it's not a positive thing. Because of recent history it will forever be associated for me with red hat wearing, low IQ fanatics. I can't help it either. The second anyone says "y'all" in a conversation I assume they're idiots at best and dangerous, racist, fox news watching fanatics at worst. There would have to be A WHOLE LOT of clear examples of nice people using that expression for me to change my view. I just haven't met any yet. I'm not trying to be nasty. I have literally never met anyone who use that expression who didn't turn out to be a terrible person.

Now that some time has passed, what do you like and dislike about kbin?

I like that kbin is smaller compared to some lemmy instances. I also prefer the UI. Bigger communities tend to feel a bit overwhelming for me. I also appreciate how transparent Ernest has been regarding kbin's development. That said, it's been a bit challenging to figure out how to utilize some of the federation features that...

I'm a reddit refugee and as a non technical person I actually prefer kbin to reddit. It's nice and simple and I get all the content I need easily. The only thing I wish was 1 click less is viewing images/videos. At the moment I seem to have to click on a post to go to that posts page and then click on the image/video in that post to see it full size. I wish I could just go through my feed expanding and dismissing images and videos with 1 click without having to load a separate page. Kbin is awesome though and definitely my home for the foreseeable :)

Isn't this game living up to the hype then? When I heard that planet landings and takeoffs were going to be cut scenes I did wonder.

It's so strange how AI always struggles with fingers.

lolirl :) I did not get the joke at first and genuinely thought there was a new condition called AD4K... (facepalm)

I have no idea about Harris history but this seemed like such a biased headline and gossipy article I did a little digging about who the Washington Examiner is. Apparently it's a right wing paper owned by a billionaire mega donor to Trump's campaign.

Makes a little more sense now.

I occasionally peek at reddit through a periscope just to see how the dumpster fire is going. Each time I've done it it reminds me of what a toxic hellscape it is. I'm never going back to that horrible place. I use kbin and don't really know Lemmy and only vaguely understand what instances and federation are but so far there's been more than enough content to keep me... ahem... content. I've also noticed that over the last couple of weeks the content on kbin has increased both in quantity and quality. It's not an easy transition because I was very badly hypnotised by reddit but I know it's the only way forward.

ΔV: Rings of Saturn has left Early Access on Steam (store.steampowered.com)

A physics-based mining sim, set in the thickest debris field in Sol. Every action has a reaction, lasers are invisible without a medium, and your thrust is a potent weapon. Find trade, adapt your equipment to your playstyle, hire a crew to help. Unravel the mysteries of the rings, or just get rich.

I've had this game for a while but just haven't been able to make friends with the UI so far. It feels like there's a cool little game loop in there but it just hasn't grabbed me yet. Do you know if there's a good guide out there I could look at?

My online experience has been much better without reddit. kbin is awesome and I want nothing to do with reddit. Last week I deleted my 10 year old account and I even add "-reddit" to the end of my google searches now so nothing from them comes up in the results. The interesting thing I'm noticing is that the longer I'm away from that toxic hellhole the better I feel. Thank goodness for kbin!

On a sidenote, I'm also fully aware that a company as aggressive and twisted as reddit will definitely have agents in here trying to manipulate the conversation to get people to come back. I ain't never coming back. Reddit sucks. I see you. Quit your BS.

When spez killed reddit kbin was the first alternative I tried and so far it's been awesome. Only ever had a tiny peek at Lemmy but then heard some worrying things about it being a chinese gov. mouthpiece. I have no idea if that's true but you know... I'm so DONE with controversy and kbin seems like it's the opposite of anything controversial. It's Jeff Bridges in his cosy Pendleton Cowichan Sweater just kicking back and chilling...

but that's just, like, my opinion, man :)

Great question! Didn't even have to think about it. It's got to be Hardspace: Shipbreaker. It's the game I go to whenever I'm down and just need to sink into something familiar and simple. I can just be an anonymous roughneck nobody, floating in orbit far above a ruined earth, taking old decommisioned spaceships apart for salvage. The Mackerel Exolab with the large Solar Sails is my favourite ship. It's just really peaceful but with the slight risk of sudden death to keep me on my toes hehe

Reddit feels like it's gone back to 100% normalcy already. Was the protest a failure? (beehaw.org)

I was looking at reddit today, and the front-page felt like nothing happened. I scrolled and scrolled and scrolled and clicked into comments. Everything is popping off buzzing with activity. All the subreddits I was subscribed to that went dark are now back up and business as usual....

Well, I'm reading and writing about it on kbin and haven't been back to reddit since, so the protests were 100% effective on me. I've had to learn that if I'm in an abusive relationship there's no point trying to get the abuser to change. I have to make sure I'm not under their control anymore. So on that front the protests were the push I needed to leave and find a better community. 100% success :)

I wish I'd known how nice a place this is ages ago! After 10 years I was so institutionalised to the way reddit was, it was really hard to imagine using anything else and having anything like as nice a user experience. So many times over the last few days I've suddenly realised that for hours I've been browsing Kbin and not reddit. It's a nice feeling. Also, now I've replaced all my reddit bookmarks with Kbin ones which makes it feel a lot more permanent.

This whole sudden march on Moscow by Prigozhin really took everyone around the world by surprise didn't it? It seems to be making a lot of governments re-assess the timeline of this conflict. I wonder what the next big development will be?

I've been wondering about that and Putin only shows restraint when he has no other choice. That means he would have done it long ago if he had the choice. I'm not sure why but it seems like he's never even remotely felt he had that choice (aside from posturing and moving warheads from a to b). Let's hope it stays that way.
