phi1997,

What did they do wrong? They're just providing value by offering consumers free pets with their food!

phi1997,

Or they could make a launcher that offers features that Steam lacks.

phi1997,

Why do Android manufacturers keep turning their phones into iPhones? If I wanted an iPhone, I'd buy one.

As a 14-year long user, the new Fisher Price UI makes me sad :( What have they done to you, Reddit? (i.imgur.com)

Notice there is only 1 full headline (from /r/NoStupidQuestions) visible, it doesn’t even show the full post. There are 3 of those “trending” boxes but only 2 of those even fit their headlines because they are like 3 words long, they cut off anything longer including the description...

phi1997,

If it was Fischer-Price, it would be colorful. This is just the sort of bland, generic website UI you see everywhere

phi1997,

Defederation is an important tool to protect communities. It helps prevent the Fediverse from being overrun with bad actors.

phi1997,

I'm surprised banks haven't stepped in. They wouldn't help for the good of the world, but this would destroy online commerce and banking.

phi1997,

Was the sub taken over by new mods or is it something else?

phi1997,

Thanks goodness it looks like the victims will live

Lemmy.ml is blocking all requests from /kbin Instances

I discovered yesterday evening that Lemmy.ml is blocking all inbound ActivityPub requests from /kbin instances. Specifically, a 403 'access denied' is returned when the user agent contains "kbinBot" anywhere in the string. This has been causing a cascade of failures with federation for many server owners, flooding the message...

phi1997,

If they don't want us to communicate with the users of their server, they should be defederated. Sucks for the users, but they can hop to another server whose admins don't break communication inelegantly and ghost admins who want to know what's going on.

If it's just a bug, then obviously we should wait for it to be fixed, but if they're not even saying they'll look into it, I don't have much hope.

OC Reddit's in-jokes and overall sense of "humor" are lame and I don't want to see them migrate to Kbin.

I like the overall lack of in-jokes I've encountered here so far, and I want things to stay that way. This might be an unrealistic thing to hope for, but I like good, pure, discussion, as boring as that may be for some people.

phi1997,

You could collapse the comments there, a feature kbin could use

phi1997,

This is basically the Russian attack on Ukraine with the names swapped out

phi1997,

Twitter's value plummeted partly due to alienating users, I expect Reddit to suffer something similar. Social media platforms only have value because they have users.

phi1997,

I'm sure they'll force it to reopen with a new, handpicked mod team that won't do nearly as good of a job.
