Hux,

I agree with the graphic.

However, I recently completed a straight watch-thru of every Simpsons episode, and while watching the lackluster episodes from seasons ~20-~30, I have to acknowledge one thing:

Quality of the show and its writing have noticeably improved since around Season 32.

The most recent episodes feel more centered on the family and much less on bizarre cameos and really outrageous situations. It actually feels like a show about the Simpson family and treats the characters more age-appropriately.

I donโ€™t like that they lost/recast established voices of minority characters (Apu, Carl, Dr. Hibbert, etc), I do think the quality and the focus of the show is much better than it has been in almost 2-decades.

Bought my first Steam Deck after seeing the deep discounts on refurbs...what should i know as a first time Steam Deck/PC gamer?

As title says, once Valve announced the OLED deck, I saw the refurbished originals go on a deep discount and figured it was time to buy in. So I ordered a refurb 512GB and Iโ€™m so excited for it to arrive! Been in a gaming rut for a long time now and, having never been a PC gamer, Iโ€™m look forward to checking out a bunch of...

chloyster,

If you are comfortable tinkering a bit, Iโ€™d recommend checking out the Decky loaderThis tool adds the ability to get a lot of different plugins for your steam deck, from changing the home theme, to editing fan controls. There are a lot of tools here.

If you want to emulate, emudeck is another great tool. Itโ€™ll set up a bunch of stuff for you and download emulators and set them up with good configurations for steam deck. I also believe if you do this, it will set up decky loader for you (donโ€™t quote me on that, itโ€™s been a while since I set it up)

For epic game store games, id recommend checking out Heroic launcher. Itโ€™s an open source launcher that connects to gog and epic games accounts and lets you download and play games you own on those stores. Another option is The non steam launcher tool on GitHub. This allows downloading a bunch of various launchers, including epic.

As for Xbox game pass, the situation is less ideal. If you have gamepass ultimate, you can utilize Xbox cloud gaming to play your gamepass games. This article is by Microsoft to set up cloud gaming on your deck. If you want to play then natively, youโ€™ll need to dual boot your steam deck to have a windows partition. I have personally never done this, but I have friends who have, and it works well for them.

UO has a super robust eco system of private shards and server software. Itโ€™s kind of amazing. Pretty active development on things like ServUO or ModernUO servers. The client has been fully rewritten and actively developed with improvements on ClassicUO. All of these are open source as well.

For servers you have places that function entirely as different eras of UO like the Renaissance shard, or even entirely new content like whatโ€™s in Outlands.

Thereโ€™s honestly a lot to be found out there and itโ€™s really neat.

Book suggestion: LONG Space Opera (or sci-fi or cyberpunk) packed with action and cool characters

I feel like I wrote this post from time to time on Reddit and I think Iโ€™ll start this tradition here. Iโ€™m. a Honor Harrington fan. Iโ€™ve read several other space operas and they always fall short. The three that came close were Lt. Leary, Kris Longknife and Vorkosigan saga. Lt. Leary was nice, but it failed on World...

With the way the world's going, is there even a point to anything anymore?

Climate is fucked, animals continue to go extinct even more, our money will be worth nothing the coming yearsโ€ฆ What motivation do I even have to care to keep going? The world is ran and basically owned by corrupt rich people, thereโ€™s poverty, war, etc. It makes me sick to my stomach the way to world is. So I ask, why bother...

scaredofplanes,

The point is your gained wisdom through experience. Thatโ€™s what the old people always tried to tell us.

Are you going to solve any of those problems? No. Are you going to be able to join some organization or movement that solves them? Probably no. Will you be able to affect any change that the world will take notice of? Probably not.

But that doesnโ€™t mean you shouldnโ€™t be a part of it. Not everything that has value makes meaningful changes on the world. There was a French artist, Marcel Duchamps, who once exhibited a urinal. This was clearly not an attempt to move art in any direction, or change public perception, he was kinda just being an asshole. But it had that effect anyway. People still get pissy about it, in the form of, โ€œIs it art?โ€ conversations. Is it? Doesnโ€™t matter. It was a low effort one-off idea that has lasted for decades.

Life isnโ€™t actually a race to see how much you can achieve. And if it was that, then it wouldnโ€™t be measured by money. It wouldnโ€™t be measured by โ€œlegacy,โ€ the way we use that word for rich people and sports stars. If it really was a contest, then it would be based on how much good you can manage in the face of constant depressive onslaught.

The world has never seemed like it has a point to most people. But they try their best, and they make meaningful impact on the lives of others, often without intention or even knowledge of having done so .

One of my most influential people has no idea that he did anything. Heโ€™s around somewhere, although I havenโ€™t seen him for 20 years. All he did was treat me like a person when I was a dumb teenager (not to say all teenagers are dumb, but I was). It really wasnโ€™t much. But I hadnโ€™t been treated that way before, so to me itโ€™s influential because it was something he did that he didnโ€™t have to do.

That guy is not going to be lying on his deathbed thinking, โ€œAt least I was a good influence on scared of planes.โ€ For all I know, he doesnโ€™t remember me. Doesnโ€™t matter. He spread some good into the world. Thatโ€™s your job. Thatโ€™s your point.

Just be a better you tomorrow than you are today, as many days as you can manage. Know that no one does that every day. And youโ€™ll live a meaningful life that maybe has influence. Your legacy is you.

/kbin project management costs, financing, future plans

I wrote the first line of code for /kbin on January 14, 2021. Around this time, I started working remotely and decided that the time I used to spend commuting to the office would be devoted to /kbin. Throughout this entire period, /kbin has been a hobby project that I developed in my free time. It was also when Lemmy started...
