I keep hearing that if you have log-in on kbin, you can access stuff in other places, such as lemmy. But, if I wind up on a lemmy instance it asks me to log-in and my kbin log-in doesn't work. So do I need to create separate log-ins on lemmy, mastodon, and so on?
So how do you access that other content — and interact with it? Can you interact with it?
If it shows in a thread here, is it a copy of the original thread? Will I be able to see the o.g. comments and, in turn, reply or just see and interact with its "retweet"?
The part I'm getting tripped up revolves around accessing the content in another part of the fediverse. e.g., if I go to a lemmy instnace, it will ask for a log-in specfic to it (i.e. it doesn't recognize my kbin log-in). So what's the mechanism by which travel between platforms happens? If I understood correctly, some stuff will show up here that's been 'retweeted'. But what if I'm searching for content that lives in Lemmy or Mastodon instances?
Facinating to watch a potential #RedditMigration to the fediverse. The #Lemmy and #Kbin teams are dealing with all the same issues that Mastodon and other fedi microbloging sites did - but in even a faster timeframe as much of Reddit appears to be set to go dark on Monday. Questions of how to onboard, questions of centralized vs distributed onboarding, questions of how to explain servers and federation, and deep questions of how to scale if traffic is anyting like it could be Monday...
Other than not really having an idea how the hell this all works, I'm happy for the push out of reddit and, maybe even kind of enjoying the challenge of learning a new platform. It's been a while, but a long time, that was half the fun of getting online: discovering all the new platforms and ways of interacting that were being created.
Still trying to wrap my head around exactly how the fediverse works. I understand it is decentralized. Are kbin and lemmy somehow intermingled? Meaning am I able to view lemmy content here on kbin and interact with it without having to create an account on beehaw or whatever?...
While trying to wrap my head around the concept of the Fediverse, I made this map. How did I do?
uhhh... what do I call the "subreddits"?
Very difficult to discuss with the fiance without know the terminology yet lol
New user with a few questions I guess?
