This is bog standard IP. You can make fan content all you want. You can make whatever fan content all you want. As long as you aren't trying to say it's actual Larian or WOTC content (i.e. don't label it "Baldur's Gate 3 Costume", you're fine. And you generally can't directly sell content that is made from another's IP.

The way most content creators get around that is just not saying it's directly related to IP. The closer it is and the more litigious the rights holder (Disney and Nintendo, for instance) the more likely they may sue. Most content creators also are fine monetizing videos about games. And patreon is perfectly fine as they are paying for the person to create content, not selling it directly.

It would be funny if prices plummetted because criminals were the factor infalting it to the gills.

I made a tool that transfers your reddit subscriptions to lemmy (github.com)

One thing that annoyed me about moving to Lemmy was that I’d lose my subreddits and that looking for and joining communities on Lemmy would be tedious. So (logically) I spent 2 days writing a script, that gets a list of your subreddits from your reddit account and looks for communities with the same name on Lemmy. It also...

There's a reason it's not allowed in the EU.

What I think kbin needs to do to survive, and why I think it has a better chance than any other Reddit alternative I've seen yet.

I’m a Reddit refugee who was on that platform for 10+ years. I saw not just a tremendous amount of controversies, but attempts at introducing alternatives to Reddit during all of them. The 2015 blackout saw a ton of alternatives suggested, and if you go back and look at them many have either not survived or never achieved...

Bluesky temporarily halts sign-ups because so many people are joining from Twitter (www.theverge.com)

Bluesky, a decentralized Twitter-like social network, is pausing new signups “temporarily” to try and resolve performance issues it’s been experiencing after Twitter introduced limits on the amount of tweets you can see in a day. Even though you still need an invite code to be able to join Bluesky, it seems that the influx...

SomeoneElse,

I saw a graph earlier today that said something like 80% of American Reddit users access the site via mobile (mobile browser, official app, third party apps). Not everyone has a desktop, but most people nowadays have a smartphone and being able to access the site from absolutely anywhere is a big draw to a lot of people. So that’s the first part of it; there’s a huge demand for mobile access versus desktop access because it’s easier, cheaper and more flexible.

The second part is the fact that the official Reddit app is bullshit. For the average user it’s full of ads and suggestions and not especially easy/enjoyable to use. That’s fine for a large group of people that only browse Reddit occasionally, but if you’re a mod, visually impaired or a heavy Reddit user it’s no good. Third party apps have existed before Reddit even had an official app. You could use Reddit on a much better looking and intuitive interface, with far more mod tools, proper accessibility and absolutely no ads - for free. The difference between using the Reddit app or Apollo (for example) was night and day.

So I don’t think it’s a case of mobile being better than desktop, just that vastly more people prefer to or can only access the internet via their phone. And for that ~80% of users accessing Reddit via mobile, the third party apps blew the official app or mobile browser out of the water.

I refined FixedFun's mascot design for Kbin. Thoughts? Feedback? (More pics/alts in post!)

I really loved @FixedFun 's idea for the kbin mascot, so I decided to refine it a bit and make some color alternatives. All credit to them for this wonderful idea! I merely refined it. Note, the circles beside the logo are just a color pallete swatch, not actually meant to be apart of the logo....
